Andre81 #1 Posted December 13, 2012 I have two copies of Ms. Pac Man from 1988 (Printed in Hong Kong/Made in Hong Kong and Printed in Hong Kong/Made in China) that say "Atari Corp. International Division" on the back. I have more than 120 games from Atari Corp. but only these two say International Division. A Google search for "Atari Corp. International Division" only brings up this post which mentions Mario Bros. http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/4685-dumb-newbie-question-about-atari-carts/ Are any others known? Was this just a mistake or did they want to re-establish an International Division within Atari Corp.?
Schizophretard #3 Posted December 13, 2012 I found these two on Atarimania: Asterix http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-2600-vcs-asterix_18112.html Moon Patrol http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-2600-vcs-moon-patrol_18278.html
Andre81 #4 Posted December 13, 2012 (edited) Thanks, so we have: Asterix, 1985 Moon Patrol, 1985 Ms. Pac-Man, 1988 Mario Bros., 1988 (unconfirmed) What happened to the International Division when Atari was sold to the Tramiels? In "The Ultimate History of Video Games" (page 269) it says that the marketing department was cut down from 300 people. Was the International Division part of the marketing department and closed? These people could know what happened to the International Division: Anton Bruehl, president of Atari's international division, left 06/1984 Steve Chiramonte, successor of Anton Bruehl according to this article: http://www.apnewsarc...79c83db151f7f07 Dennis D. Groth, president of Atari's international division in 06/1984 according to this article: http://www.nytimes.c...atari-case.html Stephen Race, vice president marketing and communications, International Division Edited December 13, 2012 by Andre81
Schizophretard #5 Posted December 13, 2012 When I was looking for them I noticed there were some Atari Inc. International Division games.
Andre81 #6 Posted December 13, 2012 When I was looking for them I noticed there were some Atari Inc. International Division games. There are quite a lot of Atari Inc. International Division games. So far I have 18. The question is what happened to the International Division when the Atari Consumer Division was sold to the Tramiels. The 1985 Atari Corp. International Division releases suggest that the International Division at least existed until 1985. Was it then closed? Was it re-established in 1988? The box of the 1988 Atari Corp. International Division release is based on the 1982 Atari Inc. International Division box and not on the 1987 Atari Corp. box.
Eckhard Stolberg #7 Posted December 13, 2012 Are any others known? My PAL copy of Snoopy and the Red Baron is like that too. Atarimania has this box variation, but lists it as NTSC. http://www.atarimani...aron_18341.html
Andre81 #8 Posted December 13, 2012 (edited) My PAL copy of Snoopy and the Red Baron is like that too. Atarimania has this box variation, but lists it as NTSC. http://www.atarimani...aron_18341.html Thanks. There was also a 1986 Pigs in Space. I haven't seen the box yet, but it's likely also from Atari Corp. International Division. Updated list: Asterix, 1985 Moon Patrol, 1985 Snoopy and the Red Baron, 1986 Pigs in Space, 1986 (unconfirmed) Ms. Pac-Man, 1988 Mario Bros., 1988 (unconfirmed) There were also 1986 releases of the CCW titles, but it seems they re-used the 1983 boxes with the old copyright.
