FND #1 Posted February 10, 2003 Not sure if this it the best forum for this but does not seem to fit the others, anyway if you feel it needs to be moved please do so. I was at a collectibles show today and ran across an insurance service that specializes in collectibles and was curious if anyone has dealt with or heard about CIA ( Collectibles Insurance Agency ) There service sounds great, No inventory requirement except on individual items over 5,000 No Appraisal required and the coverage is for the current market replacement value ( ebay accepted ). Coverage includes theft, fire, flooding hurricanes, earthquake, tornados and breakage, also covers shipping and mail up to 200.00 per loss, Certified or insured mail up to 2,500 and Internet transactions to 250.00 There Annual cost seems very reasonable 76.00 a year for 20,000 coverage. I need to look into this more but was hoping someone may know something about them, also if anyone else is interested here is there web address: www.collectinsure.com FND
yak_face #2 Posted February 10, 2003 I have heard of them before and others like it. They are fine if you don't have a home owners insurance policy but if you do your best bet would be to put a seperate rider on your policy. My toy collection has a quarter mil seperate rider which costs me only about a hundred bucks a year extra. I didn't need to provide an inventory either and only had to notify of changes in the collection when I increase/decrease the value of the policy. ie If I sell a $5,000 item and replace it with a $5,000 item they could care less. I think my agent thinks I am insane anyways. Anyways look with your regular insurance company first before setting up with a second carrier. Jim
