Atari2008 #1 Posted December 15, 2012 Curious, what does an SNES go for these days? One with the original gray color, two controllers, TV hookup and power supply? A local store is selling it for $80 but it seems rather high to me...
icemanxp300 #2 Posted December 15, 2012 $30 plus shipping for a gray system w/2 controllers is going rate for that. $35 plus s/h max if it is super nice condition. $80 is insane unless it is boxed.
the.golden.ax #3 Posted December 15, 2012 I usually get about $40 - $45 shipped (factoring a medium to large flat rate box). If an extra controller and Mario or Mario All Stars is with it add $5 - $15. $80 is WAY to high.
Austin #4 Posted December 15, 2012 $35 - $50 (tops) after shipping.
godslabrat #5 Posted December 15, 2012 Agreed. $15-$20 for a bare console. Controllers and hookups plus a common game bring it to MAYBE $50, depending on the condition of everything.
evilevoix #6 Posted December 16, 2012 Be careful, I got the old school one with 11 games and it is immaculate, but these later ones that don't fade into that ugly yellow do not work with game genies, you need a version 2.0 to make it work which is quite rare. Still trying to beat contra . So those ugly yellow stained ones work well with game genies.

evilevoix #8 Posted December 16, 2012 (edited) Well i'm lost, lol. I think you are confused somehow. Sorry. AN OG Launch SNES, the ones that turn Yellow and ugly the one on the right..... They have the original Board release which will work with everything. Later on Nintendo got fed up with Game Genie and other devcies not to mention the yellowing of their consoles so they fixed the yellowing and cut the power to the board so when you plug in a Game Genie, it loads but none of the codes work, sneaky. In response Galoob made no less then THREE revisions to the Game Genie, they all look identical on the out side but have three board revisions on the inside. I am almost certain that none of the Game Genies work with the latest mini revision. So go get an ugly yellow one on the cheap, they work best. icemanxp300 #9 Posted December 16, 2012 Ok since I was not 100 % sure I did not want to reply. However I just got out my snes game genie...took me awhile to find lol. Loaded it in my very gray model 1 snes with super mario world. I input invincibility and played an entire round w/star power. So I think you have some things confused. Yellow systems are NOT the only systems that play a game genie. As far as the snes plastic yellowing goes it has always been my understanding that the yellowing did not occur for many years after the snes was sold and it was a result in poor quality plastics used. I never heard of nintendo making systems differenty because they were annoyed w/the yellowing. The used two different types of plastics for whatever reason (probably what was cheapest at the time) and many yellowed as a result of the one type of plastic used. cOLeCoHiTMan #10 Posted December 16, 2012 $50 - $80 in my area... $50 online kijjij (craigslist equivalent in Canada) ... $70-80 in store. they've gone WAY up... I got mine $29 at pawn shop 9 months ago.. now $49.

Mine did yellow but it was a slow effect, taking about 3-4 years for it to get the max yellowing. I think it was a launch system or shortly after, as I bought it in December of 91. I've heard being in the sun can cause this, but my system was not. Also, it wasn't the entire system (I've seen some SNES that were totally yellow save for the catridge port, which seemed to be made of different plastic). What DID happen to mine was that the plastic at some of the corners cracked. Still, the system worked fine for over ten yeats before I finally got rid of it and moved to emulation. the.golden.ax #12 Posted December 17, 2012 With regards to the Genie, the color doesn't matter so much as the board inside. On more than occasion I've put the guts from an older model in to a nicer shell. Plus there are so many revisions of both the hardware and the genie that you just have to find a combo that works. Atari2008 #13 Posted December 17, 2012 (edited) Thank you everyone! I'm thinking of possibly getting myself an SNES for Christmas so I can relive some fond memories but I wanted to see how much it would set me back. I'm glad that a fair rate is way below $80 as it just sounded way too high for me. I understand that they're popular but couldn't imagine they'd go for $80 on average. I love the few local retro game shapes but they're way too overpriced. Another store wanted $100. I'll check eBay and see...I may have to wait till after the holidays though as I probably won't have enough to get everyone else gifts plus myself. I'll probably go for a nice looking gray one, I want my SNES to look cool. I'm guessing AtariAge marketplace and eBay are the best places to look? Open your game genie, look at the board version. there is a 1.0, 1.1 and a 2.0 If you have a 2.0 it works across the board.
icemanxp300 #15 Posted December 17, 2012 Mine is a 2.0 There seems to be some truth in what you speak I just don't think I believe that every single original release snes yellowed. I could be wrong. Now I want a 1.0 or 1.1 game genie to test against my gray snes consoles. According to what you are saying every single gray snes has to be a later release. What is different between the systems as far as board goes?
the.golden.ax #16 Posted December 17, 2012 The later ones DON'T have a sound daughter board in the upper right corner. The earlier systems all do.
segagamer99 #17 Posted December 18, 2012 I'd say around $40.
Atari2008 #18 Posted December 18, 2012 Cool $40 sounds around my range. Okay perhaps as a post-Christmas present, I'll get myself one. Should be fun, haven't touched one since the 90s...

Lentzquest #22 Posted December 22, 2012 I think it's wrong for the price of a SNES to ever exceed the price of a new clone system by much. Once it does, there's less and less incentive to go with the original hardware. That being said, everybody's spot-on for saying $30-50.
Hatta #23 Posted December 22, 2012 The SNES will always be worth more than shitty clone hardware.
Lentzquest #24 Posted December 22, 2012 I agree original hardware is preferred. However it shouldn't be valued at double or triple the price of the clones. That's why I said as the price tries to climb, there's less incentive to go original. Plus the clone compatibility gets better all the time.
icemanxp300 #25 Posted December 22, 2012 Clones will not play all games yet at least not nes clones, and I can't believe people pay more than $10 for them in the first place. In that theory I feel original is worth at least 3x a clone value. I might buy one for $5 just to resell but then I would feel dirty for selling it lol.
