How hard is it to get a sixer?

Recommended Posts

Light or heavy, don't care, just like all the switches in the front. Are they THAT rare and expensive?

I think I may have one or two in storage...if you would like, I could take a peek this weekend and let you know. As far as price goes, it depends where you are looking. If you buy one here, then it should be a fair price. If you look on eBay, prepare to be violated! :D

I only got started in Atari about 2 years ago. When I first started, eBay prices seemed reasonable enough. Over the course of the next while, seems that prices have skyrocketed. Can't really figure why other than people getting greedier. I wouldn't call sixers rare, but to find one in good working order and cosmetic shape on eBay, you'll pay for it. Seems to me resellers have found this niche, and are now taking advantage of it. Glad I got my stash when I did.

I just recently bought one from someone here on atari age and my experience was excellent (thanks, nopaybob!). I posted in the wanted section of the marketplace and in a few days, I had three or four responses which were all in the same ballpark.

so I would say that if you are looking to pay a reasonable price, picking up a sixer will be quick and easy!

Yep. Shop AtariAge. You may have to be patient, but you can often buy really nice stuff from fellow AAers at reasonable prices. (I know I wouldn't own a CIB Vectrex if it hadn't been for a friendly fellow member of this forum who was willing to sell at a reasonable price.)

Not hard to find at all...

Walked into a Value Village in Southcenter Mall the other day, and there was one behind the glass! I got excited to buy it from a thrift store...until the lady flipped it over and showed me the $89 price tag. DOH! And to think somebody just donated it to them...

I found a couple of light sixers at a local pawn shop a while back. He said he wanted $40 apiece. I looked at the back of one of them and noticed it had a missing power plug, so I offered him $20 for it (probably should have offered less, but I figured I just wanted to throw a $20 bill his way and get out without waiting for change or anything). Once I got it home, I took the power jack out of a broken Sears 4-switch unit and soldered it in to the light sixer. Worked the first time I plugged it in without any fuss, so I can't imagine why the power jack was removed in the first place. Worked out well, since $20 for a working 2600 of any type feels like a fair deal to me, and a great deal for a light sixer.

So no, they're not particularly hard to get, especially if a pawn shop's 'retail' on the units is only $40.

Well, if someone has one in good condition they can sell me after the holidays, PM me, otherwise I'll post in the Wanted forum

not that hard. i saw one on ebay with a bunch of games for 50 bucks (which is not a terrible price for ebay)

Depending on the condition of the console, and as long as it includes the power supply and controllers, not a bad deal at all.

Gonna tantalize the the OP without posting a hint to the location of the auction?
