How to store loose CD games?

Recommended Posts

I rarely buy disc only games because the manual and the cover are 50% the reason to go physical rather than digital, but for the times when I do get a disc only game, I buy empty DVD cases, and then get covers from thecoverproject.

I sandwich them between some nice medium grit sand paper then stack them up. See the grit on the sand paper keeps them from sliding out of the stack on accident so they won't fall on the floor and get scuffed.

I hate loose CD games but they were a steal to get. They also are a pain in the ass storing them.Do you put them in CD cases,CD books,CD sleeves what?

I get myself some CD cases for the orphans. People who discard the original CD cases to store them in something else kind of bewilder me.

I always keep some electrical tape around to repair any CDs which accidentally get snapped in half. Sometimes my CDs get dirty, and I've found that a throrogh scrubbing of the label side with a brillo pad helps immensely.

CD cases crack/break very easily. I for example, have transported all my PS1 games from their original awful jewel cases and put them in DVD cases like PS2 games, and then gave them custom inserts. DVD cases are much better than CD jewels in every aspect except for the fact that they are larger.

Nah. That makes sense.

My bewilderment comes from people who take the CD out of the case, throw away the case and inserts, and then store the CD bare. And I've seen quite a few people who store them in much the same way Fixitguy74 jokes about.

I can never do this with games but I'm thinking about doing it for movies.......

Who says I was joking? :-o

I have this CD album I use

Don't those scratch up the CDs? I never use those as they have a tendency to scratch the top layer of the CD which is even worse than scratching the bottom.

I usually use the spindles blank CDs/DVDs come in, they tend to have the plastic discs at the top and bottom to prevent scratches and the little foam inserts make it so they don't slide around.

I just avoid buying loose CD games. :D

A couple days ago I saw Final Fantasy IX at a used shop and the proxy (don't know what else to call it) sitting on the shelf was a generic paper insert. The price was pretty good but nooo way. Almost all of their DS games were the same way. Like, who the hell is throwing away plastic DS cases!?

If I were to come into ownership of a loose CD game I would probably just use a case similar to what it came with and print my own labels.

That's what I do as well - I apparently need my games to take up a lot more space :D I've actually made a few covers myself (nothing that great) for games that weren't on thecoverproject.

I usually just stick mine into slim jewel cases, at least for the games that came in jewel cases, or for ones that came in DVD case, I'll snag some cheapie DVD cases and print an insert so that I can make it look consistent with the ones that are complete.

One of these days, I'll break down and try to do the same with the jewel case games.

I remember the good old days where I had all my games , in original packaging, in 6 ft wood corner 5-shelf, and also some in my big old-style Entertainment Center drawers and underneathe. Those days are gone.

Now I have all my retro CD games from Sega CD to Xbox in multiple large CD album wallets, sorted by console and alphabetical. No, they don't ever seem to get scratched. I have the boxes / jewel cases stored out-of-the-way in plastic bins in the closet or attic. I've been thinking about putting the manuals in their own bin so I can look at them. It isn't perfect but my room looks a lot nicer & less cluttered.

I thought I'd mention, for my CD discs (audio), I put them all out of the jewel cases into large CD albums, alphabetized. The CD sleeve or booklet fits in the slow along with the CD. It's tight but it fits. So I always know where to put the CD back into which slot since the booklet is there as a place keeper. I still use CD's a lot, I have never bought an I-pod or MP3 player.

I agree about the Case Logic storage cases. I looked up one on Amazon.com called "Caselogic CDE-48" which was about $12.50 and stored about 48 CD/DVDs.
