This is Week 15

THIS ‘Week 15’ is a TWO week competition!

It starts December 24, 2012 and ends on Jan 6, 2013 at Midnight

Cartoon Weeks

CLARIFICATION: No use of CHEATS, emulation advantages, bugs, cart frying or other variables that gives you an unfair advantage is allowed in this HSC. Before you even consider using such non-sense a PM must be sent to me, the Moderator, to ask for clarification on any such advantage or rules and if any of the above variables are allowed. So assume you cannot use any of the above variables to play in the 2600 HSC until you are given authorization to do so by me, your humble yet strict MODERATOR!

Taz

· Atari

· Settings Default. Game 1.

You are TAZ, the ravenous Tasmanian Devil who whirls like a

tornado and eats everything in sight. Hamburgers, root beer, ice

cream - you are jazzed by such junk! But look out, sometimes your

feeding is so frenzied that you accidentally swallow dynamite!

Pow! What a bellyache!

Your objective: Glut on every edible item that comes your way

to achieve the fattest score possible while you stay alive as long

as possible.

Spiderman

· Parker Brothers

· Default Settings. Game 1

Spider Man: "New York City--at the mercy of the GREEN GOBLIN! He's

booby-trapped the city's skyscrapers with SUPER BOMBS! I must save the city

NOW. But the GOBLIN will try to stop my every move. Criminals and time

bombs--even the GREEN GOBLIN himself--stand between me and the SUPER BOMBS!

Can I save the city in time?"

Smurfs ~ Rescue in Gargamel's Castle

· Coleco

· Default Settings. Game 1

In Coleco's SMURF RESCUE IN GARGAMEL'S CASTLE, treacherous

Gargamel has captured Smurfette. He keeps her trapped on a shelf high

above his laboratory floor. To reach the castle laboratory, nimble-footed

Smurf™ must run and jump through fields, woods and caverns. That's not

all, either! He must climb, tall mountains and duck dangers in the forest

paths. Help Smurf™ dodge the hawks, snakes, bats and scary spiders

Gargamel™ sends from the castle! Once in the laboratory, Smurf™ jumps

to the bench, to the table, to the chair. He must even jump to the shelf to

free the captive Smurfette™! Can you make all these jumps and Smurf™

the day?

Post a score for each game.

Scoring will be in 10 (first place), 9 (second place) and so on for each game.

Bonuses:

Get 25-30 points = 5 bonus points

Get 20-24 points = 3 bonus points

Get 10-19 points = 1 bonus point

@GORFY,

You know, Spider-Man is another 2600 game which DOESN'T interest me. Also, I DIDN'T like watching Spider-Man on TV.

Next week I will post my very low score in Spider-Man just to get a participation point, but I will do the best in Smurfs and Taz.

My favorite cartoons on my childhood were Woody Woodpecker (classic version), He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, Bugs Bunny and She-Ra Princess of Power.

@Oyamafamily -- :spidey: :spidey: :spidey: Dude, I loved the Spiderman cartoon! :spidey: :spidey: :spidey: I also like Woody Woodpecker and Bugs Bunny quite a bit. In fact, when I saw from the title of this thread that the games will be cartoon-based for the next couple weeks, I was hoping Bugs Bunny would be one of them. I have a repro cart of Bugs Bunny, but still haven't played it. But Vocelli's selections are cool with me because I haven't played any of these three games either. One reason I play the hsc is to try out games that are new to me. I have about 250 VCS games in my collection, mostly loose, and a good number of them I haven't really played yet.

But for now, I'm still trying to improve my Dark Cavern score even though I reached my goal of 300k

Another good round. I had Smurf and it was my preferred game when I was 6. :)

My cousin had Spiderman but I never played for score and today I saw you need to catch bandits to score.

Taz is new to me. Just played one or two times in emulator.

Thanks again Vocelli.

BTW, I loved Spiderman cartoon too! I even had spiderman clothes :spidey:!

@Vocelli: please integrate Asterix (for us PAL-people) in this competition. It is the same game as TAZ with other charakters...

I believe Asterix is actually slightly easier from what I remember. I had both, sold my NTSC Asterix and kept Taz. I'm pretty sure there are actually slight play differences. One of them is easier as I recall.

I don't think so. Both games play and score the same. As every game, they are minor speed differences between NTSC, PAL,SECAM and emulated games.

www.atariprotos.com (Tempest!) says: "Same game as Taz with altered graphics."

Taz is the funnest and after awhile gets the wildest of the 3 games. Why no score posting till Monday? Can we still play the games and take pics and then post them on Monday? I'm actually off tommorrow so all I'll have time to do is play.....and read some Silver Surfer, Dr. Strange, and Ghost Rider in-between....hehehehe.

Out of curiosity I played a few games of Asterix and they only thing I saw as different were the graphics. Instead of dynamite there is these harp looking things...I do not see any reason why Asterix cannot be played instead of TAZ because they are the same game but altered graphics.

just my two cents on the next games for the other weeks:

Week 16 = M Network. (since we already played MY personal favorite M Network game, Dark Cavern....I suggest either Lock 'N' Chase or Burgertime.......both excellent games

Week 17-19 = Wild card with rarely played games. OH no! (two of my favorite games rarely get any attention when it comes to Atari.....Bank Heist and Fantastic Voyage)

Week 20-21 = Paddle games. (no preference)

Week 22-23 = My Favorite Games as a kid. (cue Vocelli)

Week 24-26 = Anything Goes (other than my obvious favorite games, Pressure Cooker or Berzerk. How about a nice old homebrew like Squish 'Em or Ladybug? But heck, there's wayyy too many great homebrews to pick from.)

Bank Heist and Fantastic Voyage are good suggestions, except that they've both been played recently in the hsc (in the last year or so). I like the idea of playing homebrews or hacks for the "Anything goes" weeks. I've never played Squish'Em.

I found the EASTER EGG SCREEN on TAZ

post-24681-0-51343800-1356360337_thumb.png post-24681-0-57392900-1356360342_thumb.png

HOW TO GET THE EASTER EGG SCREEN ON TAZ? After opening your Taz Cartridge, press Select Game 22 times; then hit Fire to start the gameplay. When the text "Crazed Wave" appears (at 32,500 points), hold Fire button to make "Woita Wave" appears instead of "Crazed Wave". Woita is the programmer's surname (his name is Steve Woita).

Nice. Do a high score club with Smurf - one of my all-time favourite games. And do it when I am visiting my family, where I don't have a console. I think the phrase I have in mind rhymes with "clucking bell" :-).

This is a special two week.

If it isn't enough, maybe you could try in emulation using stella...

MY EARLY TIP for Smurfs: To practice the high levels, select Skill 4 (Expert Skill).
