A2600 Harmony v1.1 ROM Pack

Recommended Posts

After not updating the pack for a few years, I have decided to update this.

With quite a few updates and additions it has shot up from a 47MB RAR file to a 180MB RAR file.

For example it is now only missing 14 of 7216 known in the GoodTools 3.14 set and NonGood and Hyperspin ROM Sets have been added as well as Hacks and Homebrews Update Pack 1 ( http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/144662-atari-2600-hacks-and-homebrews-rom-collection-v1-2/page__hl__%20hacks%20%20and%20%20homebrews )

This pack basically contains every other good pack and set released by others - and all creators and sorters and compilers deserve credit for this.

This pack is not tidy and not organised but is probably the most complete pack out there containing just about everything (several times!) including Homebrews and PAL releases.

Download is at:

http://www.multiupload.nl/8551FU5MF8

Not used one of these file sharing sites before, so let me know if you have problems or know of somewhere else to upload this.

If you know of anything else that is missing from this pack, please let us know and it will be added in the next release.

Thanks for creating that guide.

It might be easier to download it from here:

http://www.theisozone.com/downloads/retro/atari-2600/atari-2600-harmony-v11-rom-pack/

I think you just need to click on the free download link. Then enter a captcha and download file - closing any other advertising windows which open.

If anyone else want to host the file, feel free and to post a link here.

I expect I will be banned from here shortly as I have now got moderators PM'ing me stating:

"It's against forum rules to post links to ROMS."

Where I read in the forum guidelines:

"We will tolerate posting information regarding binary images for classic gaming consoles and computers"

Bah! I dont know why I fucking bother sometimes!

Turns out there are unbalanced people on the Internet. Who knew?

Years ago, someone from this site (don't remember whether he was a moderator, but he was a well-regarded user) threatened me with a lawsuit over Pac26/Pac-Man Arcade, claiming he had bought the exclusive rights to Pac-Man games on Atari consoles. I immediately stopped work on all my Atari projects. 10 years later and I see Pac-Man Arcade is still the #1 seller in the Hacks section of the AtariAge store, not that I've gotten my cut in years. Perhaps this moderator hasn't visited atariage.com/store lately. AtariAge clearly does not have a problem distributing or even selling copies of 2600 games, whatever one moderator might say to you.

While I'm not concerned anymore about some crank filing a lawsuit against me for an 8K ROM, the experience killed my enthusiasm and life has prevented me from picking Atari programming back up. (At this point, most of the work I see being done is beyond me, anyway, with all but one of my projects from that time having been superseded by someone else's far better work.) I hope you don't get discouraged, but yours is already the most complete set available at this point, in all likelihood. I have a feeling your Harmony pack will live on through torrents even if this thread is deleted.

I hope the moderator in question will clarify his position (and its apparent conflict with the forum rules) on this thread.

Thanks for the second link, BTW; downloading from the ISO Zone now. My popup blocker seemed to be effective; clicking "free download" and entering the reCAPTCHA was enough to get me the file.

Nobody is going to get banned for posting 2600 binaries, and this thread is not going to get deleted. I'm not sure why a moderator (or moderators) sent StarshipUK a message stating, "It's against forum rules to post links to ROMS", but I sent him a PM stating this is not the case and asked him which moderator(s) stated this. Generally I'm only concerned about people posting ROMs/disc images for newer systems.

I would like to publicly thank Starship UK and Al and the team at AtariAge for doing/allowing all of this (keep them coming!), because it really does bring these wonderful products to their full potential. As for ROMs and distribution thereof, that genie is long out of the bottle, so there's obviously little reason to ban/bar what are effectively consolidation/cleansing/vetting projects. It's as much preservation as anything. With that said, I'm sure we also all respect boundaries and the inclusion/exclusion of commercial or copyright products per the explicit wishes of the owners. Fair is fair.

Thanks for the Thanks. Also many thanks to Albert who has resolved the issue. Sorry if I went a bit OTT there.

Most of all thanks to all those who have sorted and put these packs together and for allowing them to be part of this pack - It is really their work and I have only bundled them all together. I am a bit of a OCD completest!

Now all I need to do is get hold of a NTSC Atari 2600 with modded RCA outputs so I can play the many (homebrew) games which have not had a PAL release. I have seen some on EBay, but they seem a tad expensive.

I actually prefer playing most Atari games with recent releases of Stella and my USB Atari joystick replica on a laptop hooked up to our big TV more than on my modded 2600 and Harmony cart through a consumer TBC (never got the TV not to roll without one). The phosphor effect simulation and various scanline options make it seem a little more realistic than the real thing, and I don't have to worry about PAL vs. NTSC. If we were still using CRTs maybe I'd feel differently; certainly nothing has matched my actual Vectrex and VecMulti for Vectrex gaming, though I'm taking a stab at porting MESS to my Android tablet (with Moga analog stick) in hopes it'll give me a more portable alternative.

In short, this pack is more of a nice archive for me to use with Stella, though I'm grateful for its intended use as a Harmony-ready ROM pack.

But I never owned a 2600 until 1999-2000, so it's not as much of a nostalgia trip for me. All my 2600 gaming was at my friends' houses; we were a Magnavox family, alas. And then Coleco, but no other machine appeals to me for homebrew like the good ol' VCS.

I might want to experiment with a TBC for some scenarios. Which one specifically are you using with success?

I'd have to dig it out (haven't used it since my last move), but it may actually be one of those "video stabilizer" boxes they used to sell at Best Buy. All I remember now is that it was grey and smaller than I expected, but worked a charm.

While playing on old Atari hardware is nostalgic for me, I'd much rather play the games via ROMs on an emulator. Emulators offer so many more options, and the games look amazing on my PSVita's 5" OLED screen. Plus the analog stick is a nice touch. I also have enjoyed playing the games on my laptop with a DualShock 3, but honestly the games look a lot better on my Vita's screen.

Oh, and thanks for sharing this ROM set .
