I like to rant. - Sugar Free Cherry Pepto-Bismol

Recommended Posts

I have many intolerances to foods, so I am quite familiar with the taste of Pepto-Bismol and its cheaper knockoffs. I am okay with the flavour of Pepto-Bismol. I have nothing against it (though I hear some people can't stand the stuff) and I will continue to use it because it works. Recently, however, I had the misfortune of having to use a sugar free cherry flavoured version of Pepto-Bismol (it may have been a knockoff brand, I don't remember). It tasted bad and I hated it. I'm going to go into reasons why I don't think this variety should exist at all.

Firstly, there is no reason for Pepto-Bismol to be sugar free. You're not drinking the stuff every afternoon while chilling in the backyard with friends, you're taking one to four tablespoons of it every once in a while. Are there really people out there that are so concerned about calories or sugar that they won't use a sugared variety of Pepto? I can understand if there are people out there with extreme diabetes or something, but even then I'd say just find another method for clearing your indigestion. I mean, there are dozens of options out there and X-treme diabetes isn't common enough to warrant an entire production of sugar free Pepto-Bismol products.

Secondly, is the awful cherry flavour. There seems to be two kinds of cherry flavours out there: the ones which are used by candy makers and tastes really, really good to someone like me who doesn't even care for actual cherries; and the ones that are used in medicine and Wild Cherry Pepsi which taste like complete ass. The charry flavour used in this Pepto-Bismol was of the second variety. Why, why, why would they make the flavour of Pepto-Bismol even worse than it already is? Hell, pink Necco Wafers taste like Pepto-Bismol, and they're a candy which people purchase to enjoy. Just saying, some people must like the flavour of Pepto-Bismol (but not cherries, it seems, because there are no cherry flavoured Necco Wafers). Whereas before I never minded having to use Pepto-Bismol, now I become deathly afraid every time I feel my tummy rumble.

Thirdly, combine 'firstly' and 'secondly'. Case closed. It's a stupid product because it's sugar free when there is no need for it to be sugar free (and I'm sure the artificial sweeteners aren't doing anything for the flavour) and it has masked its usual flavour with an even worse one which nobody likes. When was the last time you heard someone say that they wish they would get a cold already, because they were sick and tired of waiting for the sweet, sweet taste of cherry cough syrup?

I hate this product, and I don't want it in my house.
