Is this 6er heavy?

Recommended Posts

Picked up this 6-switcher from Goodwill yesterday, but the bottom label is missing. Front corners look rounded, so maybe it is a Sunnyvale 6er?

nope. Light

Here's my Heavy:

You can compare it to your light, and you'll see that the edges are much more rounded.

I don't see the difference in wall thickness. Roundness of the lower front corners is definitely noticeable, but the thickness of the black lower shell wall looks about the same between my pics and those of PitfallHarry2600's.

It's quite clear if you have a good picture :) Which of these two is heavy?

Does all the dirt and grime on those units affect their weight at all? :P

Looks almost exactly like my light 6-switch I have. :)

The thickness and rounded corners vs. sharp corner things tend to confuse people who don't know what they're looking at.

I'd say an easier way to tell is that the sides of the Heavy Sixer are more or less horizontal and very different from other Atari systems. If the bottom half of the case is shaped the same as a 4-switch (thinner plastic, sides protrude at an angle), then it's a Light Sixer.

The console should feel substantially weightier than other 2600s as well, and sturdier.

It's funny....I've been around this site for so long that I could easily tell from just quickly glancing at the picture! Listing to the "professionals" around here (and you know who you are) has given me incredible insight to the Atari 2600 system. :D
