NES Jap-PAL cart converter/adapter

Hi,

 

I'd like to get a Jap Final Fantasy III cart working on my UK NES if possible.

The only systems think are capable of this are a Unidapter or I've been informed that there was a NES "Datel Universal Adapter". Searching on the latter I can only find references to a SNES version of this, was there a NES one?

 

What's technically required, is it a simple pin mapping or something more?

 

The only other option I can think of is to burn the English translated ROM and swap this in an existing cart that uses a similar mapper model. I think only MegaMan 4 and maybe Super Mario 3 fit this?

 

Some U.S carts (e.g. Urban Hero) have Jap->US adpaters built in, could this be removed and used in the UK?
