FastRobPlus #1 Posted January 2, 2013 I’m planning to be a vendor at the Seattle Retro game show again this year. Now that it’s the new year, it’s time to start planning. Last year, I brought mostly collectible items and vintage computer gear. Of the collectible items, the surprising best-sellers were one-off t-shirts, hats and other items with Halo, Nintendo and Xbox branding. Next to me, someone selling retro game themed bead art was very popular: http://www.beadsprites.com/gallery.php So my question for the Atari-Age luminaries is: What impulsive, game-themed item would you want to pick up at a retro show? What collectible things would you like to see at the retro gaming shows?
Chuck D. Head #2 Posted January 2, 2013 At PRGE this year, posters seemed to be selling well and there were several vendors with them. Overall there were probably twenty vendors selling gaming related items that were either artsy, crafty, or just printables. I know I spent $45 on posters and my wife bought a buttload of pins and buttons. For me I would say original t-shirts with a somewhat obscure gaming theme are what I am a sucker for. I am ordering 2-3 shirts a month from RiptApparell (not all for me) cause the 24 hour limited run and low price get my attention and they have a lot of gaming and movie related themes. Re: the bead art; I don't know if it is the same guy, but at the Portland show, one vendor had high end gaming bead art that was "3-D" in that is was multiple layers deep inside a shadow box picture frame. One that sticks in mind was a long horizontal frame with Ken and Ryu at either end and fireballs shooting inbetween and detailed layered backgrounds. They were selling this quality of stuff for hundreds of dollar s and I know they sold several big ones.
Chuck D. Head #3 Posted January 3, 2013 For what it's worth, the last comic con I went to in Portland had a few vendors selling the same game-related stuff and seeming busy, so if there are Seattle comic shows, that may be another venue for you with the same stock. He sold out utterly at SRGE and was reconsidering PRGE due to no inventory, but he also had a month of vacation saved, so it looks like he used to it re-load his inventory. +wood_jl #5 Posted January 3, 2013 I’m planning to be a vendor at the Seattle Retro game show again this year. You sure are lucky to live in an area that is either (or both) (1) big enough for such events, or (2) sophisticated enough for such events. Around here, I have to make due with stuff like the "Soybean Festival," where they bring in some portable carnival rides and concession trailers! I'm envious. Please take lots of pics and post 'em! Surprisingly, the Seattle show is still pretty small. The team is growing it little by little. The portland one might be the 2nd largest now next to the Vegas show, but I don't know sor sure. FastRobPlus #8 Posted January 3, 2013 Selling any of your cooler Amiga stuff yet FR+?? I've been too lazy to sell stuff. I did have an A3K at Seattle Retro playing Deluxe Galaga/Warblade and that was a hit. Also - I had 3 retail copies of Amiga Forever and thay all sold. So those did turn out to be a surprise. The portland one might be the 2nd largest now next to the Vegas show, but I don't know sor sure. In scope and attendance, PRGE is definitely bigger than CGE in Vegas, which is not to say better because they are radically different shows. We are really lucky to have five great gaming related events in driving distance with PRGE, SRGE, Kelso Gamers show, Seattle Pinball and Arcade show and PAX. Not bragging, just counting my blessings.
