To celebrate that I have repaired a 9VAC transformer, I plugged in my 1050 and loaded M.U.L.E. from original floppy disk and played a round.

(**) Pirates affected all but green who farmed 100% smithore and scored the jackpot (95 units * 83 = $7885) in round 6.

(***) After several rounds of being ~3000 points behind, I suddenly had a 380 pts lead over green computer!

(****) But red computer with > 100 units of crystite at the end of the game wins it all!

After almost one year of not playing M.U.L:E, I had another game tonight. While being far from any records, it was a decent round with energy crisis after round 5 which propelled me into the lead for the remaining 7 rounds.

And another round. This one was a bit more eventful with a shortage of mules which caused the smithore price to reach 250, a shortage of food for a long while and right at the end a shortage of energy. With pirates only showing up in round 1 when there was none to collect anyway, it was just a matter of waiting for the good prices to sell off the inventory.

Carlsson (Red Humanoid) - 31523 pts

Actually this seems to be the highest Atari 8-bit Humanoid score posted in this thread. I posted one that is a bit higher, but it was the C64 version. The difference is so small that the two should be comparable.

Eh, you mean a single player with a score over 100K without using unorthodox methods in a 2+ player game?

I notice the top three scores have been achieved with a Leggite, Spheroid and Packer. Normally I only try to play as Humanoid, but perhaps I should try one of the other races to see if I can score even higher. I suppose the strategy may differ a little depending on race.

Changed strategy!

After a coupple games with human, trying to reach 100k in colony total, but failed every time because shortage of energy for the computers and more or less high food price the entire game, i took a new strategy.. feeding them hardcore with energy and food, but prio to energy, with very few mining plots for my self. And then hard buying of smithore after fire to boost price up.

The colony went very well, 118k, but i came in third place..☹post-66326-0-13008000-1543537976_thumb.jpg

But today i managed to reach 109k and come in at 1 place. Same strategy, feeding them hard with energy.. and some luck, piracy in first month and fire in third.

Did you not mine any crystite yourself, only concentrating on food and energy? If you consider it luck to have pirates in the first month, is that because it gives the robots more opportunities to mine crystite later and have money to pay you for food and energy, compared to if the pirates arrive mid-game and sends the whole colony into depression?

Yes i had 1 or 2 crystite plots and 1 or 2 smithore where it was mountain.

Yes, depression is not desirable.

I try not be to greedy, the point is to make sure that they got as much energy that they needed, but of course if they got the money, they have to pay..?

But its not a benefit to the colony to milk money from the computors, just for me. So its a balance you have to make..

Ok, so for a break I played the Bonzoid. My initial plan was to go for smithore, but rather quickly on I entered the crystite route, with supplemental energy and mid-game also food since only one computer player was farming that. The score isn't particularly great, but perhaps what's unusual here is how the violet computer player ended up nearly strapped for cash, only $419. I'm not sure what happened to him, though an occurence of the pirate ship in times when you're short on cash can wreck rest of the game.

Yeah. I suppose sometimes it can be nice to take a screenshot of the final map too.

Something that struck me tonight but perhaps is common knowledge among the rest of you, is that every time a plot has been sold in the land auction, the next plot in the same round will start exactly $60 below the previous final price. Thus if there are only two of you going for a plot, and you want to take a chance you might save a little money by not winning the first auction. Of course there might not be a second land auction and then you have lost an opportunity.

Okay.. I have never thought about exactly how much it will reduce..? nice to know thow.

Another little tip is: If you have the time and money in a landauction and dont want to buy, and specialy dont want the computor to get the land, continue to press the price after he stops, and press him down under the auction house and then you go down. But that will only work if you got the time and money.

Actually the $60 below seems to happen also in the next round, or up to 2 rounds later in case there was no land auction for a round. However sometimes the starting price drops by more than $60, perhaps adjusted for the general financial situation. I can observe this through my previous stats as posted above, which perhaps can be useful for other purposes as well.

Although my sample data yet is too small to be statistically relevant (only 6 games where I saved my notes), I'm finding the distribution of events like this so far:

Acid Rain Storm: 10 out of 66 possible events ~= 15% [average round 6.7]
Fire in Store: 10/66 ~= 15% [average round 6.7]
Pirate Ship: 10/66 ~= 15% [average round 5.6]
Planetquake: 9/66 ~= 13.5% [average round 7.4]
Sunspot Activity: 8/66 ~= 12% [average round 6.1]
Pest Attack: 7/66 ~= 10.5% [average round 5.6]
Crazy Mule: 6/66 ~= 9% [average round 3.3]
Meteor Strike: 5/66 ~= 7.5% [average round 5.8]
Nothing happens: 1/66 ~= 1.5% [might be a bug?]

Total 99% accounted for. Somewhere I've read more detailed information about how frequent each event should be. Perhaps the likeliness depends on how far into the game one is, as suggested by the averages above.
