Stick a fork in the PS2, it's done. (SONY stops making the PS2)

I got my ps2 about 6 months after launch (along with Zone of Enders and Bushido Blade - not sure why I got those two...). My favorite PS2 game, however, is probably Devil May Cry. It was the first game that made me say "wow, I'm really glad I got this console." I'm a huge Resident Evil fan, so I loved the similar but more action-oriented gameplay of DMC. It's also one of the very few (modern) games I started replaying immediately after finishing. Bought DMC2 but never got very far.

I've had my PS2 since right after Gran Turismo 3 was released in the USA. It's been a faithful gaming machine most of these years, save for a spell when the optical drive went out of alignment. I fixed that and it still presses on.

I got mine 1 month after it was released, and it still works!!! Needs a laser cleaned once in a while and some vaccuming.

Yes, when I got Devil May Cry I was like WOW, and I think this was my first PS2 game I actually beat to the end. I got the DMC3 some time ago and for some reason I cant beat that stupid 3 headed DOG, so I'm stuck.

Reminds me of the scene in "The Blues Brothers," where the Bluesmobile reaches its end. Hats off to the PS2, like Jake and Elwood did for the Bluesmobile.

This is the console type system that set the record for having the most games. I wonder if any other will ever match it in the future? Probably not. Xbox 360 could get there but seeing as how Microsoft abandoned having Xbox games made for the original almost right away after the new system released I could guess they would do the same thing when the next one comes out.

I have a modchipped original PS2 now. To have so many games to choose from for free with these good of graphics is like gaming heaven. You could spend a couple years straight just playing every RPG it had, but it even has so much more beyond that to appeal to anyone. I use a modchipped PS1 for those games to reduce stress and need for repairs on my system, but having access to those on top of it brings it to the upper 3000s or lower 4000s as far as quantity goes. It would take a long time just to try every game once.

In some ways I am kind of glad to see the end of the PS2 because now that whole console generation can become considered old school. The PS2 was pretty much the only thing forcing the old discontinued Game Boy Advance, Gamecube, Xbox and even Dreamcast to be incapable of being considered old school when they were discontinued much longer ago. The discontinuation will unfortunately cause Gamestop to really work on pushing these games out of their stores, but it will turn them into more sought after items as a result.

The games themselves might still not be considered classic gaming due to their technological advancements, but give it some time and any console that used a wired controller as the default option will be considered a much lower level of technology. The PS2 was the last system to have wired controllers as default (where Xbox 360's wired controllers have been optional for the longest time).

At least the PS2 didn't eclipse the Wii in lifespan. That would be embarassing for Nintendo if they had let that happen. Nope thanks to some 3rd party developers who still like the Wii it won't have to suffer that whole "we were outlived by our competition's last generation". Actually the Sega Dreamcast had that happen to them by both the PS1 and Nintendo 64. And the Super Nintendo just barely did that to the Sega Saturn because of Majesco.

I purchased my PS2 in 2007.

I bought it because of all the cheap games and to play 'Champions of Norath'. I'd gotten to play it with some friends and I was hooked.

My first games were 'God of War' and 'Shadow of the Colossus'.

It took a while to find Champions because it had been out a while.
