cncfreak #26 Posted March 21, 2014 until the homebrew Juno First was released.... I agree. I really like Beamrider but Juno First is simply amazing.
cncfreak #27 Posted March 21, 2014 I just recently acquired this game, and I plan to invest some serious time into it. I need to earn the patch. Hehe yeah it's gonna take me a ton of time to get the patch. I'm just not real good at it.
+boxpressed #28 Posted March 21, 2014 I agree. I really like Beamrider but Juno First is simply amazing. Thanks for the heads up on Juno First. Looks like my kind of game! And I have some store credit just sitting there...
cvga #29 Posted March 22, 2014 Beamrider is my favorite game for the 2600. The way the difficulty ramps up and the way new enemies are introduced is incredible for a 2600 game. This game shines on so many levels!
+cmart604 #30 Posted March 22, 2014 I have it on all 3 (VCS, Inty and CV) and not surprisingly I play the Inty version the most. Great game.
cvga #31 Posted March 22, 2014 I have it on all 3 (VCS, Inty and CV) and not surprisingly I play the Inty version the most. Great game. I grew up playing Beamrider on the Intellivision although I primarily play the 2600 version now. I have it for the vcs, Inty, and CV as well as the 5200 and Commodore 64. Are there any other versions of it?
high voltage #32 Posted March 22, 2014 Of course, Atari 8 bit
+boxpressed #33 Posted March 22, 2014 Although I haven't played the 2600 version yet, the 8-bit (and C64 version, I presume) use the "up" direction on the joystick to fire the torpedos. I think I prefer using the second button instead on 5200, CV, Inty ...
7800 #34 Posted April 1, 2014 Yeah, This game is pretty awesome on ALL platforms.
Rik #35 Posted April 2, 2014 I have Beamrider for my CV, which is a pretty good game IMO. I haven't tried the 2600 version. I didn't even know there was a 2600 Beamrider!
Brian R. #36 Posted April 2, 2014 (edited) I recently stumbled upon a 2600 Beamrider cart myself. It was a bit finicky, to the point I thought it wouldn't work, but it does. Very good game. Seems like a rather expensive/costly game to pick up. I got it dirt cheap - the seller sold me a boxed, un-yellowed 400 for $15, if that gives you any idea. (Edit - looked at eBay just for Atari and Beamrider - damn!) But literally just today I got Juno First, so I'll be playing that a lot now. They are rather similar games, it seems. Cobra Commander #37 Posted April 2, 2014 I think I have this in my "to play" pile of games acquired over the past few years. I should get ON my ass and play some games.
Rom Hunter #38 Posted April 3, 2014 Beamrider is one of my favourite VCS games. Used to play it a lot on my C64.
dark-aleph #39 Posted April 3, 2014 The artwork of the box is great as well. The HES yellow plastic clamshell version released here in Australia looks fantastic when spread out! http://www.atarimania.com/2600/boxes/hi_res/beamrider_hes_cart_2.jpg I love the VCS version. The fluidity of the movement is better than any other version in my opinion. You can pull off some great manoeuvres where you jump over to the next corridor for what feels like a single frame before yanking back and blasting the alien that just tried to shoot you! 7800 #40 Posted April 3, 2014 The Intellivision version is my personal favorite.
RJ #41 Posted April 3, 2014 We played this awhile back for the 2600 High Score Club. One of the better games we played, I gushed about it. I think I said it's how games should be.
