onlysublime #1 Posted January 13, 2013 MIDI Maze was a game I never got to experience. heard it was an amazing multiplayer experience. so I go looking for vids on Youtube and nothing... not even an emulator vid. I saw a blurry cam of a guy roaming around a room of guy's playing it but you couldn't see the gaming screens. can anyone point me to a link to see the game in action? onlysublime #3 Posted January 13, 2013 thanks. it was hard to tell from the footage. so you could shoot and that's how you won the game (by killing your opponents)? if you're both facing each other and you shoot, do the bullets chance each other out? +DarkLord #4 Posted January 14, 2013 Yep, that's pretty much the technique. AFAIK, it would still go to whoever's shot got there first. Been awhile since I played it myself, honestly.
Android8675 #5 Posted January 18, 2013 That game would of been amazing if they had figured out a way to strife. I'd love to hack this game to support a mouse/keyboard setup. We had 12 people playing this game once, it was a GREAT experience.
+DarkLord #6 Posted January 20, 2013 12! That's way cool. I can't remember, isn't that somewhere near the limit that can play at once, 14 or 16 total? Thanks.
atarian1 #7 Posted January 20, 2013 You could have 15 players, but have 16 STs hooked up. One was the "master" machine which, if I recall correctly, displayed the maze with all the players' positions in the maze. My Atari user group had 2 or 3 MIDI Maze tournament days where members brought their STs in so that we can have 1 or 2 MIDI Maze rings with 16 STs in each ring. Unfortunately, I think only once did all 16 STs work correctly. Somehow, somewhere, one of the machines in the ring was screwed up. That ended up being the weak link. We ended up in smaller groups of 5-6 machines instead. I have always wished there would be a return of the MIDI Maze ring at CGE, MGC, or some other big classic gaming show. +DarkLord #8 Posted January 20, 2013 Man, that sounds just awesome. I never got to play in any sessions of that size. All I can say is wow.
krupkaj #9 Posted January 25, 2013 We played the MIDI maze last year at OFAM party in 5 people. I have video somwhere but cannot find it now. So enjoy the photos http://www.krupkaj.cz/xgal/showpic.php?show=OFAM8&obr=
Retro Rogue #10 Posted January 26, 2013 I have the large midi maze set up that used to run at Gencon back in the late 80s and early 90s. Got it from the Atari user group that used to run it when they were tossing out everything in the early 2000s. They were no longer an Atari user group by then, just a PC group comprised of a few people in their 50s and 60s.
