Pixelboy #26 Posted January 22, 2013 But it does not mean at all that Hang On II can not be done on coleco. Starting from zero it is doable and i'm sure we can do better. And concerning the pure "portage" ,. Anyway the portage from SG-1000 to Colecovision is always possible , the problem is just the amount of work and rewriting you want put into. The usual Lazy port is may be not possible in the case of Hang on II. May be it require to modify 40% of the code instead of the 2% that this kind of port requires usually. I'm sure If Eduardo wanted he could, imho he just didn't want invest his time in that project to do something more interresting as the SGM or DKarcade. Eduardo spent weeks trying to get the CV port to work, youki. He really did try his best, but there were persistent graphic glitches that he just couldn't figure out how to remove. As I said, it all came down to the minor hardware differences between the SG-1000 and the CV which actually had a major impact on this port. The graphic glitches were caused by timing issues at the hardware level. Maybe a 40% rewrite of the machine code could help fix these graphic glitches, as you say, but only a Z80 expert who happens to be a die-hard fan of Hang On would ever take the time to do it. +digress #34 Posted January 23, 2013 (edited) I find there are lots of action games on coleco but not many good rpg games. I particularily love Alcazar which I own since it's was new almost 30 years ago. A real good dungeon crawl with the fog of war & needing to map as you go and use straegy and limited resources efectively. It also is really great when you can play co-op. Recent(relatively) games such as Diablo (bitmap version on PSX is kind of what I have in mind. Obviously PSX has 650 meg cd's for storage and not 32k to 128k. But treasures of Tarmin on Intellivision is quite good. I far prefer the 3rd person view of diablo though or perhaps the mockup on the origional coleco box called Tunnels & Trolls. I think the multiplayer part is what really works on this style of game. But not a brain dead button masher like Gauntlet. Need some actual skill and strategy. This one ... I have "Quest for the Golden Chalice" and this is definately in the right category. Specifically it's the multiplayer with differnt character classes, 1 magician, 1 fighter working coop. and both having to run away on the same screen. NIAD #35 Posted January 24, 2013 (edited) I wonder if Bruce Tomlin would consider revisiting his Unnamed CV RPG game now that the SGM is almost released, the MegaCart PCB allow for larger games (what is the max, 1Mb?) and Opcode's new MegaCart PCB will offer a save feature? I think it's safe to say that Bruce won't be making any more ColecoVision software, but you never know, I could be wrong.
+digress #37 Posted January 24, 2013 Never seen this before. That is well done. The sprite size and style of it reminded me of an even better rpg to emulate though... Pirates! The tandy version on pc would be 16 colour, 3 part sound, similar resolution and probably doable on the coleco hardware. Anyways thanks for the link. Pixelboy #39 Posted January 28, 2013 What do you think about Pacar from SG-1000? That port was already attempted by Steve Bégin a few years ago. He got the port mostly working, but he lost interest at a certain point when he encountered a weird bug that was hard to reproduce (and therefore hard to fix) which made the game crash and freeze randomly. VGC1612 #40 Posted January 28, 2013 it could have been a very good game on the colecovision
