fiddlepaddle #2 Posted January 22, 2013 I'm a programmer, started out writing computer games, and collect lots of video games, but not computer games, not even the ones I wrote. I always wondered why and still don't know... I know they're dirt cheap at flea markets and thrifts.
+Ransom #3 Posted January 22, 2013 I do collect Atari 8-bit computer games, as well as any software by Atari for that system. I have more software for that system than any other, including consoles. It just has a huge nostalgic pull for me. Especially the original big black box releases. I have a few Apple II games, but I am really selective about what I buy for that one. Tr3vor #4 Posted January 22, 2013 As far as PC games, I want to find more older games in a physical copy, like old 3.5/5.25 floppies and CDs. They are usually really interesting, especially the ones that use DOS. I'm starting to really get into old PCs since I installed DOS 6.22 on a spare hard drive on my Pentium MMX 200mhz that I've had since like 1997. Mirage #5 Posted January 22, 2013 Just C64 and Vic-20, with some random unintentional A8 and Amiga stuff thrown in. I actually stopped collecting for computers for a long time, but now that I have pretty much everything I want console-wise, it's the next logical step. However, my approach with computers is totally different. I mostly want to get boxed titles that I owned at one time. Also I collect titles that are very good games with either really great box art, or documentation or extras that are worth having, or both. I have no desire to be a completist collecting everything from a company or a genre, because there's just too many titles for computers to do that. +save2600 #6 Posted January 22, 2013 Currently have over 540 boxed Amiga titles + 160 loose disks w/ manuals.
AtariLeaf #7 Posted January 22, 2013 Clint (Lazy Game Reviews) has a pretty impressive PC gaming collection. He has some stuff I've never heard of and he has most of it boxed and complete from the looks of it.
Tr3vor #8 Posted January 22, 2013 Clint (Lazy Game Reviews) has a pretty impressive PC gaming collection. He has some stuff I've never heard of and he has most of it boxed and complete from the looks of it. Yeah, he's my favorite youtuber, and I'm actually watching his videos right now. I haven't seen very much PC computer videos compared to the Ataris, Commodores and Amigas. I'm not really into that stuff. Old PC stuff is where its at. I really want to get a 8088/80286 system sometime. My oldest computer has a 486.
+Sargon #9 Posted January 22, 2013 I used to collect some PC games before Steam. Now I just collect games in my Steam library, which sure does save a lot of space in my small house!
krslam #10 Posted January 22, 2013 If it's the sort of computer you can plug a cart into, then I collect for it.
karokoenig #11 Posted January 22, 2013 I still do have a bit over a dozen of my old DOS games cib, mostly point & click adventures and a few simulation games. But the fact that I still have them is more a result of my inability to get rid of them on a flea market or two :-). No one here in Germany seems interersted in DOS games anymore, so I thought to myself "Might as well keep them". I wouldn't call that collecting, though. Tr3vor #12 Posted January 22, 2013 The old PC game boxes are just awesome, big with plenty of material and disks, I need to get some
karokoenig #13 Posted January 22, 2013 The old PC game boxes are just awesome, big with plenty of material and disks... Damn right! Anyone remember Stonekeep? It came with a freaking 124-page NOVEL written exclusively as an introduction to the story of the game. A real book, with pages made of paper and stuff. Not a PDF. I guess I'm never gonna sell THAT box. So, alright. Call me a one-item PC game CIB collector.
atarilovesyou #14 Posted January 22, 2013 I just took a whack of the old PC Leisure Suit Larry games to goodwill...they had the 3.5 floppies, but no real documentation (long gone)...they were neat to look at on a shelf though. I woulda hung onto em but really, I just don't collect for computer stuff other than my old Falcon 3.0 and 4.0 stuff...ok, and Panzer General...and a few Microsoft Flight Simultars...ok and Star Control even though I've never played it....just that. Yep.

I really want to get a 8088/80286 system sometime. My oldest computer has a 486. I have actually given some thought to finding an old 486 and collecting some of my favorite DOS era PC games. I used to have several but got rid of them all, same with some of the CIB games I had like Sharkey's 3D pool, 8-ball deluxe, Stunt Driver, Ancient art of war, and a crap load of CIB Lucasarts stuff from the 90's like Tie Fighter and Full Throttle. icemanxp300 #16 Posted January 22, 2013 I don't collect pc I think alot has to do w/the fact that you need a huge slow computer to play them lol. Not sure maybe games can be played on newer systems? I know most pc's don't even come w/floppys anymore. I could drop one in mine but would it even be compatible? The other thing is pc games are freaking HUGE. I would need an entire room just for pc lol. If I was to collect pc it would be Boxed only. I do have the Tandy 1000 Castlevania complete which apparantly goes for quite a nice chunk of change. I grabbed it last year at a yardsale for $1 not even knowing what it was. I just seen Castlevania and was like well I have to give it a shot and just tossed it in my bag. Believe me if I had known the value it would have got its own seperate bag hand carried for the rest of the sales.
the.golden.ax #17 Posted January 22, 2013 Yes, I have been stung with the classic PC collecting bug a few times. I have around 30 - 40 classic big box titles.

There is dosbox for playing old dos games on the newest of computers. you can also get USB floppy drives if you want to boot up an old game, but I'd rather get a few older PCs and use those. its like emulation vs real deal type thing for me. Seob #20 Posted January 22, 2013 (edited) I do have around 40-50 pc games, but most of them are the ones i have bought ever since i got my first pc, a 286 12.5mhz. I even have a box with around 15 titles still sealed, like star trek 25th anniversary, sim city, and a few other adventure/sim games. I guess the problem with pc games is, the fact that it's a open standard. So there are only a few systems that stand out of the crowd, most of the systems are just boring old boxes. Also IBM's image isn't as flashy as commodore's image. IBM was making business machines, and that wasn't a image one would like to be associated with, it's dull. A other problem is the big variety of videocard, soundcards, and setting up a working system without IRQ or low basic memory errors. AtariLeaf #22 Posted January 22, 2013 Ah the good old days of screwing around with config.sys and autoexec.bat to get a game to work. Actually I think I still have a bunch of floppies I used as boot disks for different games - games I haven't had in well over a decade.
schuwalker #23 Posted January 23, 2013 I still own the majority of my pc collection from the 286 days. Including most of the 'point & click' adventures from Lucasarts and war flight sims from Dynamix. I did pick up a boxed game I've been looking for a while: David Wolfe - loved that game bitd! Now, I'm into collecting some the C64 titles I used to love playing. These include some of the Synapse titles, Lucasarts Labyrinth, Epyx Impossible Mission and Muse's Castle Wolfenstein. atarilovesyou #24 Posted January 23, 2013 I tried to get Dosbox to work last year so I could play my all time wargame fave, Panzer General. It wouldn't work no matter what I tried. I've got an old 486 sitting right here but it's not just the size and age, it's finding a monitor, keyboard and mouse with the old connectors! Plus, I'm not sure if I can run Win95 on it for certain...I remember when I did, it would cause an issue with Falcon 3.0 because Win95 sucked up so much RAM it couldn't boot up. Oh, to only have skills...you know, numbchuck skills, computer hacking skills...girls only want boyfriends who have great skills!
+frankodragon #25 Posted January 23, 2013 I've been collecting PC games for some time now but lost count how many I have. At GW recently, I found Space Quest Collection in the smaller box and supposed to run on Windoze XP.
