HSC10 Round 1: Jet Boot Jack

Recommended Posts

Tickled_Pink making progress

It's definately a game where more play makes for serious improvement. Talking of which I finally beat Skill 3 and then limped through 4 only to smack into a lift on the first screen of skill 5 294,525 not quiet enough to catch JK40001 but we still have a few days to go ;)

Finally managed to figure out how to do the first screen withour re-fuelling but the bugs weren't kind to me so scored 5,950 :ponder:

That's an awesome game. First I thought it's very similiar to Mr. Robot which I don not like very much. But quickly we found out it's a completely different game and it is really fun to play after all.

Here the scores from HSC Munich:

#1 : twh / f2 : 11875

#2 : GeekGirl : 7575

#3 : Lightning : 7025

Just got 5,400 for the 1st man 1st screen.

Edit: Just tried it on the NTSC setting. Wow! Didn't expect it to be as fast as it was. Still got to screen 8, though. Keypresses seem to be more responsive, though. Something that keeps killing me on PAL is that it doesn't seem to react to keypresses quickly enough sometimes.

Battered Jack earlier. Got through to the 6th skill which seems to be exactly the same as the 5th

412675

1st Man 173175

Pics to follow when I can be arsed to get them off my phone :)

Oh no! How could you do this to me?! ...breathe in, breathe out, breathe in, breath out.....okay, now I am stabilized. Anyway, look forward to my Jet Boot Weekend ;-) ..and big congratulations to You, because I dont think, there is a skill 6, the game just repeats skill 5, in other words you made it to the end of this game!

I'm now trying to get an NTSC unit (in the UK); it's quite amazing how much zippier some games run - I noticed for JBJ there was a [uS] Datasoft release but it seems to play at the same NTSC speed as the ESC version (under emulation).

Have you got a PC joystick available - there's a few posts on the beginners guide that might help in getting setup. I've used an atari joystick using the PPjoy software (shareware) with a home made cable/connector (old PC with parallel port / WindowsXP). Let me know if you need any help ;)

If everyone can get a joystick setup (games with diagonal movement or more requiring more intense control are difficult with keyboard) and bag a set of *paddles* for later in the season that would be neat ;)

This round finishes Sun 10am GMT - Vote for Round 2

Thanks. No, I don't have a PC joystick. The last one I had was an analogue thing, though. For something like this I would really need to have a digital stick.

I will have to get one of my machines set up at some point. But then I'd need an SIO2PC or APE. Used to have one but sold it a while back as I didn't have a PC with a serial port.

If you did have a parallel port PC avaialble then the PPjoy connection was not too hard to make up (uses a regular A8 stick) - I made a couple of connectors that use a standard ethernet cable between them thankfully without any soldering. Don't think APE does joystick (though now has USB connector for file transfer/printing etc)...

Keep the scores coming folks and Vote for Round 2 :)

Just thought I'd post to worry McKong and JK4001 but I failed to beat my score... so the question is is our champ Scalak going to make a last minute killer score :ponder: or perhaps MaPa might, for the first win of Season 10 :D

Keep 'em coming folks and Vote for Round 2 :)
