Robot2600 #1 Posted January 24, 2013 http://meatfighter.com/pitfall/ I found this ASCII port of Pitfall, and though I'm sure it's probably be posted on AA I can't not post it. It's a very smooth console-based port of Pitfall, it's a little easier, and it's got parallax scrolling to boot. What more could you want? Well I could want it to run in Windows 8, but I can't seem to get it to work. It ran just fine on the XP machine in my office, but won't work for Windows 7 or 8. I do have an XP machine in the other bedroom of my apt, but that computer isn't hooked up to the internet, doesn't have speakers, etc etc. Running this in Windows 8 would be a dream. Anyway, enjoy the port and if anyone can help me out I would greatly appreciate it.
+Gemintronic #2 Posted January 24, 2013 http://www.dosbox.com/ if this is a real DOS program. You might try right-clicking on the program and hitting properties and change its compatibility mode setting.. UPDATE: I guess this is a .NET 3.5 application. Robot2600 #3 Posted January 24, 2013 Thanks for the response: I had tried dosbox and it did not have a compatibility mode option. I assumed (probably incorrectly) that .NET 3.5 was included in Windows 8, is that not the case?

Looks like you have to install the older version of .NET http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh506443.aspx
Robot2600 #5 Posted January 24, 2013 Looks like I'm SOL. Enabled the 3.5 framework and still getting the same "This application cannot run" error message. Such a bummer, I wish the creator had just made it a simple application. Guess I'll give the XP machine a shot at it.
+Gemintronic #6 Posted January 24, 2013 I totally agree. As a side, when I was growing up THIS is what text mode Pitfall looked like: http://www.mobygames...eShotId,438707/ http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/pitfall_/screenshots/gameShotId,438708/

Robot2600 #11 Posted January 25, 2013 (edited) Okay, back to the .net one, I'm looking at the "details" of why it can't run and I get this: "Deployment and application do not have matching security zones." That's the only error as far as I can tell... seriously Microsoft? Anyways, probably still a long shot but I thought I'd post the error in case anyone has dealt with it before. EDIT: YEEEAAAAAAAA got it to work. The error is beyond stupid.......You have to...wait for it.....use Internet Explorer. Had no idea .net was that stupid.
