nitrosport #1 Posted January 26, 2013 (edited) I bought this saturn from a Japanese seller. I got it today and just look at the box it was sent in. The seller used a little newspaper to pack the console. It took such a beating in the mail that it got 2 cracks in the front. Anyone have this happen to them lately when making an international purchase. Edited January 26, 2013 by nitrosport
+save2600 #2 Posted January 26, 2013 Absolutely no excuse for that - especially considering it was an international deal! Guy was stupid and/or careless, but that said and these days, I try to communicate just how I'd like to see things sent. You simply have to today. A lot, if not MOST sellers are that dumb, clueless, careless, lazy or a special combination thereof.

This is just rediculous. This is like when I bought an Intellivision only to get it with a shipping label stuck right onto the original box.
Mayhem #4 Posted January 26, 2013 Most Japanese sellers protect their items really well in transit... I think you just lucked out there with a bad one.
nanochess #5 Posted January 26, 2013 It looks like the seller used an old box. This never should happen as them begin to become fragile. Besides it should be filled so the inner item is tightly packed to not "dance" inside and to absorb blows. Obviously the guy never has traveled or bought something from other country, otherwise he would know how the packets are treated in transit.
goldenegg #6 Posted January 26, 2013 Most Japanese sellers protect their items really well in transit... I think you just lucked out there with a bad one. Agreed! The consoles I've ordered from Japan (and there have been quite a few) were the best packed shipments I've ever received. One of the strangest shipments I got was a Neo Geo MVS cart from a guy in Vancouver. The cart was placed in its cardboard box (the one that MVS cames come in), wrapped in a thin layer of bubble wrap, placed in a large ziplock bag and taped shut. The shipping label was on the outside of the ziplock back. Thankfully there was no damage, but who the hell does that?
purduecrum #7 Posted January 26, 2013 An Atari 7800 I bought came in a box that was too small and the unit was shoved in leaving no give inside of the box for the unit to take the wear of delivery. Sad, otherwise it is a very strong functioning and cosmetic machine.
+20ohm20 #8 Posted January 27, 2013 I ask how an item will be packed for shipment on everything I buy on eBay, especially when "free shipping" is offered, prior to purchase. If I get a vague response or none at all, I don't buy.
DaytonaUSA #9 Posted January 27, 2013 If you want a white one that will be shipped properly, and is in near mint shape with no yellowing, I have one here. Sorry about your luck. I really do hate ebay sometimes... Been screwed over my fair share of times. Once bought a box full of unused film for a photography class way back when I was in college. The guy sent me a box of empty black film canisters.. no film. Definitely not what he advertised. Paypal/eBay didn't even bother helping me.

TheNameOfTheGame #11 Posted January 27, 2013 Oh god...Sorry about that. Yes, always ask about packing extra secure..but really it is always a bit unsure as it is up to the seller.. That one looks crap though
chrisballer #12 Posted January 27, 2013 I feel your pain bud. This has happened to me in the past too. I spend the extra money, and buy proper shipping material. People really do appreciate a well packaged item.
Sek #13 Posted January 27, 2013 Most Japanese sellers protect their items really well in transit... I think you just lucked out there with a bad one. This. All the items I've ordered from Japan have been some of the best packed things I've received. I'd agree you just managed to come across a bad seller. kid_vidiot #14 Posted January 27, 2013 Can't stand ebay sellers think it's ok to ship cib games that use cardboard boxes in freakin bubble mailers. I have to specify to ship it in a box every time now.
high voltage #15 Posted January 27, 2013 (edited) Worst is when sellers only use the original console box for shipping and slap a huge address label onto the box, and stamps. Happened to me with a huge shipment of Atari MegaST computer, monitor, laser printer, HDD, the seller used the original white Atari boxes as shipping boxes. Labels all over the place, and the PO did even more damage. Edited January 27, 2013 by high voltage
+20ohm20 #16 Posted January 27, 2013 Worst is when sellers only use the original console box for shipping and slap a huge address label onto the box, and stamps. I received an Amiga 500 and a VIC-20 like this. The Amiga 500 survived shipping, but the box was heavily damaged. The VIC-20 didn't have the original styrofoam inserts, so the seller just stuffed dirty, wadded up newspaper in the box. It arrived with a case cracked in two places and 30% of the keycaps/plungers broken off - even more irritating was that it was a VIC-20 with the earlier PET-style keys. +boxpressed #17 Posted January 27, 2013 These days, I make these specific requests as soon as I win an item. At the risk of coming across as a moron or a jerk, I send a message saying something like, "I'm sorry even to have to ask, but please don't use the original product box as the shipping box. I'd like to keep the original box in the condition shown in the photo. I've had this happen in the past, so I hope you can understand my concern." Only half of sellers even bother to respond, but at least I'm twice as likely to have a good experience.

What gets me is that some of those sellers list the item as "vintage" or "great for collectors" and still slap a shipping lable to the original box. Seriously? Home depot sells large boxes for like $1.50. Edited January 28, 2013 by nitrosport
stringfellow #19 Posted January 27, 2013 A colecovision I got was packed in a box of shredded clothing. It added probably 10lbs to the weight. Very strange, with the extra the spent on shipping they could have bought a whole roll of bubble wrap.
Stan #20 Posted January 28, 2013 Complaint-filing time. Get some money back. I've had it happen with sellers from all over the place, even here. If they don't take the time to pack nicely, it's on them.
