ac.tomo #1 Posted January 27, 2013 (edited) Hi, I'm having ploblems getting my software to work on the mame emulator, of which various versions I've used, but don't seem to get anywhere. The biggest problems I get are: 1. Either I haven't created a MAME.INI file which I don't know how to do, or particular files can't be found, even though they've been put in the 'roms' folder. If anyone can help me with which mame emulator to download and software to download & any tasks I need to do I would be very thankful, thankyou. Keatah #2 Posted January 27, 2013 You're not alone. The usability of mame is pretty shitty. Mess even worse. I don't have time now, but someone will be along soon enough to troubleshoot the problem.
OldSchoolRetroGamer #3 Posted January 27, 2013 Round and round it goes. This request keeps popping up perhaps it should start having the same advise (Get matching versions of MAME AND ROMS / AUDIT ROMS / Frontend Gui's / Where to get particular versions etc) in a STICKY? Just seems this topic keeps popping up with the same advise (or lack of) given every time. http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/207038-mamedang-sure-would-like-to-use-it-but/page__view__findpost__p__2680356__hl__%2Bmame+%2Bhelp http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/206218-upgrading-mame/page__view__findpost__p__2653674__hl__%2Bmame+%2Bhelp http://strategywiki.org/wiki/MAME/Install http://www.racketboy.com/retro/emulation/introductory-guide-to-mame32mameui http://classicgaming.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Guides.Detail&id=14
Mirage #4 Posted January 27, 2013 I would just have the sticky point to some MAME-specific help sites or forums, if there are any good ones, instead of trying to duplicate the effort here.
mbd30 #5 Posted January 27, 2013 (edited) You shouldn't have to create a MAME .ini file. It should automatically do that. If you're having problems then you may have to run MAME as administrator, depending on which version of Windows you're using and in which directory you have it installed. I also recommend MAMEUI because it comes with a user friendly GUI. And make sure that you have the latest ROM sets. The most headache-inducing thing about MAME is how the ROMs keep getting updated so that ones that work on an older MAME version won't be recognized by a newer version. http://www.mameui.info/ Edited January 27, 2013 by mbd30
