Anyone still working on a "Lunar Lander"?

Recommended Posts

hi all!

I was just curious, i seem to have this weird overwhelming urge to play a good game game of Lunar Lander... but all I can find is browser based versions and sorta cheesy "updated" versions. I have yet to find a good port of the original arcade game.

Wouldnt it be nice if one of the great folks here at atari age would homebrew a 2600 version of it?? Someone? Anyone? Pretty please with sugar and a cherry on top?? :D

Ok, sorry to bother yall... im just getting desperate!

Keep up the great work!

To quote Thomas from an earlier thread....

Thomas .. You need to program a true version of Lunar Lander.  You've got the code in Thrust already!

Too easy. ;)

That's something that should be better left for a 2600 programming newbie.

So obviously he can do it.. We should harass him more! :P

Holy crap! I never knew that This Planet Sucks was a clone of Lunar Rescue :o (probably because I never played it)..

I remember when they replaced my beloved Space Invaders machine with one.. it just wasn't the same. But still, it's always a revelation for me to know of another arcade translation on the good old vcs.

Zilla.. there's another one for you to add to your screenshot thread :)

Hey, don't encourage him ;)

Actually my T1 is ok with all those pictures and its a fun little thread.

Back on topic, sort of, I find This Planet Sucks to be a lot harder than the Lunar arcade games. I think I may need to read the manual to see if there's some tricks to it :)

How did I know of Lunar Rescue? Well, the local Sears Department Store actually had an arcade. Well, they had 3 machines in their coffee shop. Anyway, while my mom shopped for shoes, sheets, or sheer curtains, I'd play the hell out of the game. That's why I've been a TPS supporter from the beginning (or at least since the time I discovered it). becasue it was one of my "hidden" favorites. Not as well known as Pac-Man, but a game I played the hell out of.

And, for the record, right next to it was a Space Zap machine. "Vault Assault" anyone? ;)

This is a neat idea, since lunar lander on starship is so bland and the concept is so hard in gravitar.Someone program this for us 'mediocre' gameplayers,Please!Maybe with three levels of difficulty--childrens/regular(mediocre)/&'you WILL crash'.I would buy that game.

well i bet tps could be hacked pretty easily into lunar lander. just make some basic terrain, remove the enemies/people/etc and double size of the lander gfx.... (and of course black b/g w. all green gfx.)

Well at least weve got everyone talking about it now!

Now all we gots ta do is convince some careing wonderful programmer to take a little free time and use some extra talent to make a lunar lander for the cool folks at atariage... heck we might even pay ya a buck or two! ;-)

Keeping my fingers crossed!!

In addition to a graphics Lunar Lander, we need a text lander too that uses the keyboard for fuel input.

Might a VCS Lunar Lander version use a paddle for analog thrust?

Clay Cowgill's 1998 Moon Lander on the Vectrex is the best analog home port of Lunar Lander.

Jupiter Lander was also made for the C-64. I should know - the opening theme drove my poor mom crazy. Doot, doot, doot-doot DOOT-DOT-DOT_DOTDOODODODODOT!

I just played that vectrex moon lander on MESS... not too bad!

BUUUTTTT... its just not the same thing as a 2600 version *sigh*

A paddle control for rotation would be kewl! then just use the button for thrust! This game cant be that hard to program... maybe thats the whole problem, not enough challenge! Hmm... how bout a contest... see who can get one done the quickest? I have no idea what the prize would be though... other than the grattitude and undying respect of those of us that are dying for an awesome lunar lander game!

still living in dreamland!

I've got a loose Froggo Sea Hawk for whoever finishes it the fastest! (Though I don't know if that's a deterent or an encouragement....)

(Offer void if no one tries to finish it quickly.)

Same with mine, it was pretty cool. Then they eventually moved it into the wing in the mall where Sears was, adding many more games, since it was a lot bigger than the little cramped Sears room. Nice.

Please check the attachment for a mockup screen shot. Is this what people are looking for in a lunar lander game? :?:

Thanks,

I played Jupiter Lander for the C64 so much it was ridiculous...wish I still had that cart, it was fun.

I still do. :D Whenever I can finally hook my C-128 back up again, it's the first thing I'm gonna play!
