Broken Beeshu Zoomer Nes?

Recommended Posts

Finally scored a broken besshu zoomer nes off ebay for a little uner 20 with shipping. It doesn't work unless I giggle the cord. I made a video describing what is wrong. I hope somebody knows what is wrong or if it is worth trying to fix.

If you have to wiggle the cable to get it working, then it's pretty obvious to assume the cable's the issue. I'd suggest getting an NES extension cord, cut off the other end and then solder it to the controller after you've removed the old cable.

Rare enough to pay $20 for a busted one, eh? You don't have to be good with soldering to replace cables.

Well I didn't see any others. Only other one was 80 something. It said probably works but hadn't used it in ages so I took a risk. I can probably get most back. But I can try to fix it. And I know its hard to see. But if you pause the video around 3 minutes and 1 or 2 seconds you'll see the wires are soldered to board. So it is a solder job.

Not a difficult one though, not all solder jobs are created equal.

I just bought one intended for use with the NES, but I intend to re-cable it to work with a 2600. Mu Ha Ha!!!

There is a 2600 version also.

The expense was the problem. Everything I found that was Atari compatible was ~$100 I found one for the NES for $25. It was a bit of a trick, there are like five different kinds of switches in this beast, but I figured it out. The NES ones are far cheaper. I couldn't find a wiring diagram for the Zoomer so it took a bit of time probing with an Ohmmeter. Perfectly possible though, works great with Zaxxon.
