chrisbid #1 Posted February 13, 2003 so im in toledo for the week, visiting a friend of mine. We headed to the local Blockbuster to see if they had anything interesting. They had $3 off all of their used games. I generally dont care for buying games at BB, but once in awhile you do find soemthing worthy of a purchase, and today i think i do pretty well. Firstly I picked up NFL 2K3 for the cube. Im not a huge sports sim fan, but after the discount, it ended up being $17. I also wanted this game, as Sega has announced that it will no longer be making sports games for the cube, so itll be nice to have this in the collection. Secondly, i picked up Legends of Wreslting which ended up costing $7 after the discount. Ive heard a wide range of reviews on this game, but with classic characters like the iron sheik, "flying" brian pillman (who coincidentaly graduated from the same high school as i did), and others, i felt it was the right price to try it out. Sadly, there wasnt a book with this one, and of the games i picked up, it needed one the most. So my friend and i pounded buttons for a few matches and it got old pretty quick. Ill have to play around with it later after reading some FAQs on it. The last game was Namco's Smashing Drive, which had a $6.99 tag on it, making the final cost 3.99 after the discount. Like NFL 2K3, this game was complete, but it has got to be the lamest arcade racer ive ever played. The theme song playing in the background was incredibly stupid, and it felt really really slow for some reason. Crazy Taxi was a much better game. But i paid less for this game than it wouldve cost to rent it, so i dont feel that bad about it, and i can prove to others that its a horrible game. all in all i spent 27 dollars on three cube games, not a bad nights work, even if i dont really enjoy these like as much as say Beach Spikers, which my friend and i have played most of our waking hours here. But check out your local blockbusters as they seem to be looking to clear out some shelf space
moycon #2 Posted February 13, 2003 Yes the BB's in Georgia have the $3 off right now. And all used DVDs for 9.99. They are selling State Of Emergency PS2 for 6.99 and that is before the $3 off! Good deal. The game is definately worth $4. Also I've seen Spy Hunter, Virtual Fighter 4 and Turok for $14.99 SpiderMan, Headhunter $19.99 Almost all my PS2 are BB pre-views and I have yet to come across any problems. The stickers on the back of the box dont come off easily but the front ones do. The stickers on the disk...(If there are any) are now very thin plastic ones that are clear and hardly noticeable
chrisbid #3 Posted February 13, 2003 yeah, im going to have to break out the goo gone when i get home, those back stickers are killer Virtua Figher 4 is greatest hits right now, so 15 isnt that great of a price for a used copy, see if you can get it under 10. Its a great game
AtariX #4 Posted February 13, 2003 I had a $20 gift card from BB. Picked up the Xbox version Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance for $29.95, so it only cost me $10. BG:DA is a really good game. Kinda like a Gauntlet type game, but with a better story and way more RPG elements. This is a good pick up for RPG starved Xbox and Gamecube owners and can probably be found for really cheap on the PS2. I used to hate buying used games at BB, because they never had the box or instructions. BB seems to have got their act together, all their used games now have the box and instructions. They even sell a limited selection of new games.
Snider-man #5 Posted February 13, 2003 those back stickers are killer Yup, removing Blockbuster (or any used game store) stickers from the game case can be a real pain. So, here are my instructions for getting rid of those stubborn stickers: 1. Go to Sam's Club, Wal-mart, etc, and buy a pack of replacement DVD cases (usually 10 in a pack) for $10-$15. 2. Go home, open old case, remove slipcover art, instructions, and game disc. 3. Place all in one of the new cases. 4. Repeat until all cases are pristine and new. 5. Save old nasty sticker-laden cases for when you place used DVDs or games on eBay and aren't real particular about what the final auction price is. sdstuff64 #7 Posted February 13, 2003 I got a bunch of N64 games for $3 to $8 each, standouts are Beast Wars(BB only),and Star Solider, the only(I think)2d top down shooter for the system. And Splashdown for $20 for Xbox.
eldunko #8 Posted February 14, 2003 Down the street we have a blockbuster with a specific massive game section, i don't know if you guys got em down there, but its pretty wicked. Its like whole gaming store right beside the regular blockbuster, they sell everything, not to mention a 50" tv and 4 tv trial area... and the icing on the cake is a massive used game section, most are like $20, not too bad at all... all you americans could clean up really well up here
chrisbid #9 Posted February 14, 2003 this may or may not be off topic, but i cant belive how bad smashing drive is, i have never played a namco game as bad as this. I could forgive the unoriginality, but it plays like crap, and the music is horrid. im repeating myself, but its really is a bad game... still worth four dollars though
CPUWIZ #10 Posted February 14, 2003 You're right Smashing Drive is utter crap, although it wasn't developed by Namco. It was orginally written in Spain as an arcade game and was translated to consoles by another company. Namco just slapped the name on it, why I don't know. AtariX #11 Posted February 14, 2003 The Spanish arcade company you are thinking of is Gaelco. Gaelco made Surf Planet and Radikal Bikers for Atari Games back in the late 90's. I enjoyed those two games, but all I've heard is bad things about Smashing Drive.
