Broken carts?

I got 17 carts in the mail today. All played fine except 4 activision carts. They were not really broken. But they were missing the bottom thing. They played ok but the bottom cover thing is missing. Is that how activisions were made just like on the 5200. Or did I get bad carts. The broken ones were tennis, skiing, pitfall, and star master.

Activision carts do not have a dust cover mechanism like Atari's carts. This is true of most third-party games.

Some Activision carts came with a white foam insert to protect from dust.
