Odyssey 2 help

At a flea market this past weekend and picked up a "broken" odyssey 2. Pumped to finally own one and I figure I could try and fix it. Before I even try to turn this console on and try it I thought I'd open it up since the seller said it was broken and wouldn't turn on. First thing I saw was a white wire that looked out of place soldered to the back of the board and also and capacitor soldered to the back of the board, just seems unusual to me. Anybody have any experience with the odyssey 2 and can tell me if this is normal or not?

Never played odyssey before. I hope somebody here knows the answer.

Yes, that is normal. In my O2, that wire is yellow. But otherwise exactly the same.

 

Try firing it up after cleaning the cartridge contacts. O2's are sometimes reported broken when they aren't because of dirty contacts, or the RF box isn't set up properly. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Thanks. Odd that they put a capacitor on the back of the board. I'll hook it up tomorrow and see if I can get it to do anything.

PS - Isn't it amazing how empty that case is? They could have made the O2 so much smaller.

Oh, and make sure to check the output voltage of the power adapter. That is one easy thing to check, and those do sometimes go bad.

A while back, someone posted a bunch of threads linking to his Flickr or photo site that showed a complete breakdown of multiple systems. Hi res shots of internal components. I can't recall the name of the thread, but I think it happened about a year ago.
