schuwalker #1 Posted February 4, 2013 Do you guys have a favorite? Mine is hands down Taito! Especially the early '80s stuff.... I just like the uniqueness of the gameplay of some of these, in other words, they just weren't Pac-Man clones. I've been trying to roundup and collect all of the ones from the era I just mentioned. My list includes: Front Line Alpine Ski Crazy Climber Space Dungeon (needs a cab) Electric Yo Yo (needs a bezel and marquee) Jungle Hunt/King empty cabs (2 of them) I really want to get a Zookeeper still and convert one of my JK cabs to Kram. Still need a Wild Western of course. Something about the unique color scheme each one these games that I love! Here is a reference:
+bennybingo #2 Posted February 4, 2013 Atari. Tempest is my favorite arcade game, but they produced so many great cabs throughout the years. Atari definitely gets my vote!
NE146 #3 Posted February 4, 2013 (edited) When it comes to arcade, definitely Taito. Those were the games that pretty much dominated my childhood arcades with stuff like Space Invaders, Space Chaser, Wild Western, Super Speed Race(?) etc. Next is probably Williams. Can't beat Defender/Robotron/Joust. I do notice though that later Taito games had that generic cabinet.. but the early stuff like Space Chaser had really nice sideart. And of course the original Japanese Taito versions (not Midway) of Space Invaders and Space Invaders part 2 are arguably the most beautiful cabinets & hologram displays around. ledzep #4 Posted February 5, 2013 Atari 1st without question with Cinematronics 2nd. While Sega's Star Trek: Strategic Operations Simulator is one of my all-time favorites and Xevious is really a Namco game distributed by Atari, almost all my other favorites are from Atari (Tempest, Space Duel, Warlords, Lunar Lander, Black Widow, Star Wars, Red Baron, Missile Command, Centipede, too many others). Even the ones that aren't really my favorites like Breakout and Canyon Bomber and others are still great. Cinematronics also put out almost all winners, some of my all-time favorites as well (Space Wars, Warrior, Star Castle, Rip-Off, Armor..Attack!, etc.) but I'd go with Atari because they made so many more favorites and they also had a killer home console/computer arm that is my favorite as well. But I'm biased towards vector games so they have the advantage there.
Kombalar #5 Posted February 5, 2013 Atari without a doubt. Namco comes second. Then Taito and Sega.
Cynicaster #6 Posted February 6, 2013 I always get confused over "manufacturer" and "publisher" since some companies did both. All I know is that I like the following names: Atari Williams Namco Sega Konami
M.A.M.E Offender #7 Posted February 6, 2013 This isn't exactly an easy question for me to answer, but I will try my best. There are many manufacturers out there that I have taken a liking to. The ones that stick out in my head(in no order): Toaplan - they are the king of 80s shooters, so many of them. Konami - I love how they push the gamers to the max, hardly ever making games that are a cinch to master(Contra excepted) Williams - Same as Konami, possibly even harder. The excruciating difficulty you face when first trying a game of Defender is unbearable to some. Taito - so many titles, and so many good ones. They deserve mention for sure. Atari - they had a knack for making games that were heavily addictive.
RJ #8 Posted February 7, 2013 Atari & Namco first all the way. I only ever dabbled in Nintendo (Popeye) & Sega (CrackDown).
Keoma #9 Posted February 7, 2013 Back in the day growing up I'd have to say TAITO followed by Atari, then Capcom in third place, but overall, TAITO always made the games I spent money on time and again.
