The Obscure Canadian Music Trivia Contest!

Recommended Posts

Yes, Canadian music has its highs and lows. In tribute to all the interest that's been shown toward Canadian music in some of the off-topic threads, I offer the following trivia contest -- name that (Canadian) tune!

THE QUESTION:

Amongst all Canadians who have charted on Billboard magazine's Hot 100 chart since 1955, which artist has had the biggest hit on this chart? And with which song?

The first person who responds correctly to this question will win:

THE PRIZE:

An unsealed, well-stored copy of "Scramble Spirits" by Sega for the ST!

Set in the indeterminable future, this high-speed game sends the player into battle against hoards of deadly opponents. Sealed in your vintage fighter plane you take on wave after wave of enemy craft and huge aircraft carriers. Dodge their lethal fire-power to survive.

In other words, its a non-specific "1941" clone with bad spelling! Ooh! Aah!

Black Velvet - Alannah Myles (spelling is almost certainly wrong)

Hi there!

I'm sorry, I don't know Canadian charts music, so I guess I'm all wrong with stuff like:

Assimilate / Skinny Puppy?

Like a Hurricane / Neil Young?

Echo Beach / Martha and the Muffins?

Safety Dance / Men Without Hats?

Sweet Jane / Cowboy Junkies?

Born to be Wild / Steppenwolf?

Anything from Leonard Cohen? Frontline Assembly? Snog? Numb?

Ah, probably not Frontline Assembly, but I heard their side project "Delirium" was quite popular...

Hm... I'm not even sure if all of this stuff is really Canadian, but at least it's good... :D

Actually I even like a Celine Dion song: River Deep, Moountain High - but then I like all versions of that song (especially the ones from Erasure and the one from The Saints...)

Greetings,

Manuel

These are all great choices, but...nope! :)

You don't have to know a lot about Canadian music to win this one. Remember, the question asks you to name the biggest hit by a Canadian in the U.S. -- where the "Billboard" chart is based.

... and viewers of "The Simpsons".

"The theme, from a summer place, is the theme from a summer place, which is the theme, from a summer place. It's the theme...".

Got the boxed game today in great shape. Looks like a fun little game, the box by Sega rocks at the very least.

Thanks again.
