0078265317 #1 Posted February 17, 2013 I went to a place called disc replay today. They had a copy of turtles in time for super nintendo for 69 something. No box just loose and 1 manual. Seemed a little high just for the game. He said turtles in time is rare. I thought turtles was cen common. The rarity guide even says 26 loose. Is that really a rare title or is 69 too high for that. I already have a copy just wondering.
Atariman #2 Posted February 17, 2013 Pretty sure the guy is just nuts. Not sure where your Disc Replay, but the ones I visited in Northern Indiana were always hit or miss with their prices. Sometimes they were pretty reasonable, but they had their crazy prices, too... Edit: Even checked Ebay. An impatient person could grab one for a BIN of far less than $69... Typical dumbass that thinks that just because he doesn't have 4 copies of it that it must be worth crazy amounts of money.
sqoon #3 Posted February 17, 2013 SNES games are all going nuts these days. Speculators have ruined it. Last I checked, Turtles in Time could be found loose for $20-$30, but that was a few months ago.
0078265317 #4 Posted February 17, 2013 I went to the skokie il one. They said it was rare but they only give 5 dollars per game at most for snes. He said 50 to 70 if I go elsewhere however. But on ebay with boc and manual was 195. Even just the empty box was 35.
godslabrat #5 Posted February 17, 2013 Turtles in Time is more expensive than the average SNES game, but not anywhere close to $70. $20-$30 seems to be about right. I agree with another current thread. This is a bad time to start a SNES collection. Good games are getting harder to find and prices are going up. Tenorman #6 Posted February 17, 2013 It seems like all of the used video game stores always charge way too much for any NES or SNES game that is even half-way decent these days, regardless of whether it is actually rare or not. Usually the Sega stuff can be had for much more reasonably, heck I bought Hyperstone Heist for $1.00 last year.
godslabrat #7 Posted February 17, 2013 Might as well enjoy the last leg of this ride. Judging by how Atari and NES collecting has gone, the next step will be not finding anything at all, ever.
0078265317 #8 Posted February 18, 2013 So you're saying hold on to the turtles and don't sell it because it might be hard to find someday??
godslabrat #9 Posted February 18, 2013 So you're saying hold on to the turtles and don't sell it because it might be hard to find someday?? I don't think the price will ever go DOWN, no. It's a popular title. However, I think it's a bit too common to ever fetch crazy-stupid prices. It might go up about another $10, but that'd be it. IMO, of course. Schizophretard #10 Posted February 18, 2013 At the Disc Replays I visit in central Indiana, most NES, SNES, and Genesis games are less than $10.
mbd30 #11 Posted February 18, 2013 You can get a loose cart for $39 from Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000GU49P6/ref=sr_1_1_olp?ie=UTF8&qid=1361202317&sr=8-1&keywords=turtles+in+time&condition=used Thank goodness for emulation if you just want to play the games without paying a bundle.
+thegoldenband #12 Posted February 18, 2013 Turtles in Time is one of the titles where the prices have gotten stupid for no real reason. I sold an extra copy not long ago for $18 after checking what the going rate was ($20-24 at the time), and felt uncomfortable about even pricing it that high -- I'm still in the mindset where loose SNES games should be $10 max, outside of real rarities. But the amounts people are now claiming for TMNT IV are ridiculous; it's absolutely not rare, and isn't even especially uncommon. Some SNES titles have gotten a "spike" for whatever reason -- I'm told that the prices on Firepower 2000 doubled or tripled when it got cited as a hidden gem by some prominent Youtube reviewer, but I think they've come back down to earth. Some probably won't come back down, though. I still think that Ebay's free listing policy is responsible for a lot of this crap. Charge people based on their asking price, and the impulse to speculate goes way down. But if you let people list things at astronomical prices without paying a cent...well, I guess rampant speculation is good for Ebay, but it's not good for gamers or most collectors. It'll be interesting to see if this bubble pops, but thankfully Sega stuff is still mostly free of it.

Tr3vor #14 Posted February 18, 2013 I got my copy of Turtles in Time for $5 2 or 3 weeks back, I don't know why anyone would pay >$20 on this game
SoulBlazer #15 Posted February 18, 2013 I got my copy of Turtles in Time for $5 2 or 3 weeks back, I don't know why anyone would pay >$20 on this game Because it's a awsome game? It's one of my 'top ten' games for the SNES. Really fun to play, especily with other people, and a great port of the arcade game, even better in some areas. sqoon #16 Posted February 19, 2013 Yeah, seriously. Thank goodness for emulation. It keeps the sellers honest. I don't understand that statement. Many sellers are greedy these days, and I see too many BIN auctions priced way above fair market value. This is evident by the fact that those BIN's often sit there for months without selling. Similarly, I can go into retro game shops in my area and see overpriced games sitting there gathering dust for months or even years. My guess is that most of these sellers do not care about emulation, nor feel that it is impacting their ability to get unreasonable dollars for their wares. 0078265317 #17 Posted February 19, 2013 High prices are the norm these days. Just look at this. 10,000 is not worth it. Even for all of this. eBay Auction -- Item Number: 130754120221

gorfcadet #21 Posted February 20, 2013 Just makes me glad that I scored most of my collection pre speculators market. We used to have a nice mom and pop shop local that made most of their money on current gen trade ins and sold me all nes, snes, and genesis carts for three bucks a pop regardless of title. I got all my black box nes, final fantasies, heck most of my collection at three bucks a pop. I tried to give them more for my boxed Link to the Past, but they said they didn't care and were just glad to help. They were great. Sad thing is with my son as TMNT obsessed as he is, I'd probably plunk down twenty for it at least.

BassGuitari #25 Posted February 24, 2013 I went back there today and it was gone. So I guess somebody bought it. That sucks. Not only is whoever bought it dumb, but it gives credibility to the whacked-out price the store was asking. They'll jack up other things like that, knowing it really *is* worth that much to some sucker out there.
