hahaa :) No, just slowly building. I am working to get a brick and mortar going. This is the virtual front for that.

I don't use faceplant, but I think it's cool that I can see a T.U.G. cart. :D Good luck, Kai.

Thanks, CPU :) When this place is in open, many will be able to see and play some pretty unique works of art :)

My dream grows ever closer!!! :-)

I saw a documentary on the guy running twin galaxies and how he took his stuff to the Smithsonian and no one cared. I care. A LOT. I want these kinds of things to have a home, where they can live long after myself and cpu are gone. Don't let the joystick die!

Twentieth Anniversary Mac, I'm guessing? Not only does it still work, but it's CIB with the leather pen set and subwoofer and all, natch :-) (And there is some known issue these had that was factory serviced back in the day before I got it...)

Not to disparage what you are doing here, but what is the difference between your plans, the ICHEG, and what the Digital Press guys are trying to do? I believe even Wonder007 is looking towards a museum, though I think his plan is to specialize in Atari and not be general to all gaming.

It's really starting to feel like there are way too many people trying to open separate museums when working together could create a truly world class and all encompassing location for all things related to electronic gaming.

I don't believe it's even close to enough. Are there too many 'old art' museums? Are we moving towards the year 2,100?? I think there is plenty of room in the world for many truly world class, international, new-media museums. I don't know the details of their plans. I've been working on mine since 1980 when I started collecting. I've been posting about it here practically since I joined and talking with others about it as well. Just ask n3146 or rob fulop or any of the others I've talked to about this. Shame my concussed memory isn't perfect... I no longer remember who all I asked to be on the board... I know Albert agreed once, long ago... :-)

Read the facebook and one spark pages to see what some ideas are for where I believe this can go...

I apologize for touching a nerve, that was not my intent. I honestly want to know about your plans and thoughts as I find the concept of a museum dedicated to my chosen hobby very intriguing. Even though I think we are on different pages entirely, I applaud anybody that will push forward with something like this as it may serve to help all of us as game collectors.

I will say I think the raw scale of your comparison is a bit skewed. We're at about 50-60 years of video gaming history compared to thousands of years of art history, so that alone dictates that there would be a need for many musuems in the art world. That coupled with the political and other social events that have shaped the art world over the centuries mean that it's just not possible to have a central repository for all things art. I do feel that is currently a possibility in video gaming as there's just not that much out there yet and am worried that redundancy in museums may dilute the experience for all of them. Putting myself in the shoes of a "non-collector", how many times do I care to pay to see Super Mario Bros and a toaster NES or a 2600 and Combat?

I did take a look at your OneSpark page and I think that your goals are admirable and I hope you can make them happen. I will offer what I hope comes across as constructive criticism though. When I look at the pictures, I see 2 gutted arcade cabs, an iCade, a few common and repro/homebrew Atari carts, and some piles of just random stuff. The only picture that shows me that something I'd want to see in a museum is the pic of the 2600 display, which I think is very well done. Maybe it would benefit you to stage some shots of a couple of key pieces that would draw me, a collector, into your world. Couple that with more shots similar to the 2600 and I think it would improve people's perception of what you have and what this museum may become.

Again, I hope that you can make this happen as it's clear you are passionate about it and sometimes, that's the only thing that matters. I wish you the best of luck in reaching your goals.

Agreed on the 'how many times do I want to pay to see a toaster nes" aspect (Though I believe The I.M.A.G.I.C. mitigates that.) I believe our perspective as people 'in the woods' of video game collecting may be a little skewing. To kids today, their perspective may be very different. Also, the angle of this museum being an interactive museum with a much broader focus than just the past 50 or so years, I feel, is very distinctive. We have board members with focuses on CCG, pen and paper RPG and many other elements. I envision a place where one can come, sit down, and play some senet, or one of the first ancient Chinese card games, or magic the gathering, or a modern console game, or a 2600 game, or braunstein (etc.) with 'public ready' installations that encourage interaction. I envision the ability to walk through the history of the artistry of human made interactivity, from our earliest recorded and known instances up until today (Which is thousands of years.)

Ah! That makes more sense. I was under the impression that you were strictly looking at a video game museum and not a gaming/interactive media museum. I think the only other thing similar I've heard of is the Strong Museum of Play, the parent group of the ICHEG. But they seem to cover all toys, so they are a bit more wide than what you are proposing. It's a very interesting concept and I'll definitely keep an eye on your threads about what you are doing.

And yea, you are 100% right about having a skewed view of things as collectors. I find it difficult to find things on display that truly engage me anymore as after this long, I've seen most everything. But I do think that having a good destination for protecting what we have and educating people that aren't in the hobby is of critical importance. Especially given that we are in a hobby where we are fortunate enough to still have access to the true fore-fathers of the technologies we enjoy today. The more of their thoughts and work that can be saved, the better off we will be as gamers.

Indeed. I want their to be a place for the jersey of the guy from twin galaxies. I want there to be a place to play 'tennis for two' and 'galaxy wars' and the old e.m.s. A place where you can use a working replica of ancient greco-roman coin-operated amusements. Where you can read and research with a vast library of video and non electronic books and magazines. Play contests, give consoles to the needy. I'd love to get games into the library system or at least have one on site. I want a place where stories like rob fulops desire to make dave crane cry with a starfield get the attention they deserve. :) a place that honors all the artists keeping the dead alive... And so much more.

New logo up on the updates of the kickstarter page and on the facebook page. Thoughts from the peanut gallery? I am being interviewed about the museum for a local public radio segment sunday. If i get a link, I'll post it. I havr to say, what surprises me most isthat the nintendo-era+ people get this idea instantly, and are my current backers/board etc. The pre-crash collectors like me seem to either not care or think i'm crazy. My initial impression was that I would be 'preaching to the choir' amongst my fellow atarians, but it seems i have to convert the choir? LOL :)

Most people from the Atari era are either bedridden or in wheelchairs, so they are saving their government checks for more important things like cat food and jigsaw puzzles.

Ah! I knew there had to be a perfectly logical explanation. So, a homebrewer could capitalize on this market by making a cat food jigsaw game for the 2600! :)

Just a thank you to everyone that helped make my kickstarter a success! We have funded building our display at onespark. Our phoenix cocktail arcade game for the onespark display is now repaired! We have a new plexi being made tuesday, and I wll be doing whatever I can for all the rest of the display. The 2600 will defintely be represented!
