carmel_andrews #1 Posted March 5, 2013 Linky only http://uk.news.yahoo.com/more-human-lara-croft-returns-103117764.html Nice idea, kind of reminds me of an attempt the producers of Dallas did with a few episodes of Dallas before JR’s family got to where they were and partnered with the Barnes’s (albeit very briefly) The fact that the new producers of the TR series has someone respected in the literary world on the team should make it an interesting reboot/remodel
Vic George 2K3 #2 Posted March 5, 2013 Hopefully this will bring Lara Croft back to what her original creator intended with the character instead of the constant T&A eye candy that she's become...just another video game floozy in a line of video game floozies whose only purpose is to give male video gamers something to get their jollies from at night. Reaperman #3 Posted March 5, 2013 (edited) It seems like the last few tomb raider games have been "reboots"--which I'm all for. Having them be unique experiences was very refreshing, especially since the original formula wasn't that great to begin with and was totally beaten to death. I especially enjoyed guardian of light. Bravo to the person who said "what tomb raider needs is about 30% more robotron in it." It was about as far from the originals as you can get without setting it in outer space. I just hope that tomb raider doesn't settle into becomming 'yet another' stealth game, or cover-based shooter. Cammy #5 Posted March 6, 2013 Good Game reviewed this new Tomb Raider game last night and both reviewers praised it, giving it 10/10!
Vic George 2K3 #6 Posted March 6, 2013 (edited) You say T&A eye candy like it's a bad thing. It IS a bad thing when it's used so much to the point where the only expectations anyone would have of a female lead character in a video game is that she looks attractive without any clothes on. And with some gamers, that's all they really expect female lead characters to be. Besides that, how would you think females would want to get into video gaming if the only thing they see as far as female lead characters is that they're just being used for T&A? And with some gamers, that's all they really expect female lead characters to be. Why should we expect more? I was happy when your "character" was nothing but a square. It's a game, if the mechanics are good that's all that matters. But if you're going to put in more detail than a pixel, what's wrong with making the character attractive? Besides that, how would you think females would want to get into video gaming if the only thing they see as far as female lead characters is that they're just being used for T&A? Then they can play a game with a male lead with rippling abs and glistening pecs, or a game where the male lead is all mysterious and moody, depending on the type of guy they're into. There are plenty of examples of both. I'd be willing to bet there are more games with stereotypical male characters than there are stereotypical female characters. Playing a game with a character who has a body I can never achieve doesn't bother me at all, and it shouldn't bother a female either.
Segataritensoftii #9 Posted March 7, 2013 From what I've heard it's a pretty good game, but there's a little bit more railroading than there probably should have been. You can explore during the main game, but you kind of have to go out of your way to do it.

moycon #12 Posted March 8, 2013 If all you want is an animated mannequin with no personality outside of just being your sex toy, all I can say is...GO MAKE ONE YOURSELF!!! It almost sounds like you demand your game characters have a super deep and moral personality ? I'll tell ya, there's a ton of humor in this thread! I think you're confusing games like Tomb Raider Legends and Tomb Raider Underworld (last 2 TR games) with games like Lollipop Chainsaw or Onechanbara Bikini Samurai Squad. Sex-toy? Seriously what was the last Tomb Raider game you played, and at what point did you think someone would be compelled to whip it out and rub one off at what they were seeing on-screen in a recent TR game?! I'm baffled. BTW has anyone gotten this game yet? I've seen great reviews so far. I had considered getting the Collectors Edition for my birthday next Monday, but then reminded myself I had already bought the Halo 4 360 as an early bday gift, and besides often times you can find the CE editions of popular games for like 50% off a few months after release, so I'll probably be getting this, but want to wait for the CE edition to drop. Was just curious if anyone already had it, and what they thought.

Something the guy never said he wanted. And secondly, you've obviously not played Legends and Underworld, as moycon already hinted at. HuckleCat #19 Posted March 20, 2013 I have the game, have been playing it a lot for a few days now, and I think it's frgging awesome. Very good reboot. It takes many of the cool elements that made games like Batman: Arkham Asylum and Far Cry 3 so much fun to play. It also has a big "metroidvania" vibe to it, since as you progress, so will your abilities through items you find and improve - allowing you to go back to previous areas and discover things you couldn't before. Yeah, she's less of a sex object too. They made her more "real", so, like Far Cry 3, she's more or less a "normal" person that's just put into a situation where she has to fight to survive. (As opposed to being Wonder Woman with dual pistols.) Do yourselves a favor and get it.
+Cobra Kai #21 Posted April 7, 2013 Picked up Tomb Raider yesterday, and quite honestly have had a hard time turning it off. Comes in a steelbook case with a slip cover also, for now. Probably see standard packaging in the future I'm sure. The gameplay is little short of an interactive movie, with quicktime events run amok. However, there is different elements of combat to deal with, with stealth, and cover-combat to keep you hands-on with the action from time to time. There is lots of exploring to do thankfully, and this is the funnest part of the game for me, trying to figure out how to get to hard-to-reach locations and discovering the 'optional tombs' and their associated puzzles. Really cool game, no real complaints at all. I'm about %30 complete right now and I already have that urge that I know I'm going to replay through the game after I finish it, because I'm realizing how much stuff I missed early on.
moycon #22 Posted April 15, 2013 Amazon had the Collectors Edition on sale for $75 so I bit. The game is amazing. Like Nuclear Pacman, I'm not following the main story very closely. Too busy hunting animals for experience, searching for journals, relics and lost tombs. Leveling up my skills. The game is simply great. I highly recommend it if you are a fan of the series. This one is a keeper! Enjoying it so much I invested an extra $40 in the Limited Edition Tomb Raider controller!
carmel_andrews #23 Posted April 15, 2013 I will wait till one shows up at CEX or gamestation/game (a second hand games shop)....just so I don't have to pay through the nose for a new game (I think, give it about a month or two and one should show up) Just OOI, have they put the previous 4 TR's on compilation yet (i.e Guardian o/t light, underworld, legend and anniversary)...After all they put the first 6 out on compilation...I was stupid enough not to buy it when it turned up at CEX
+Cobra Kai #24 Posted April 19, 2013 Completed the game 100%, except for multiplayer achievements which I'm not interested in. Almost half the cheevs are MP, I hate that. Bioshock Infinite is the deeper game, by leaps and bounds. I feel like I got more for my money with Bioshock Infinite compared with Tomb Raider. However, I had more fun with my playthrough of TR. It was the more exciting experience. The downside is that I don't have the urge to play again like I thought I would, it's a fairly linear story. Bioshock Infinite is linear also, however I'm certain it has more replay value due to the wider array of weapons and a few choices you can make to alter the story. Both are worth their money to me, but I can see myself playing Bioshock more often in the future. Tomb Raider, not so much.
