R-time 8 Solder Tab Replacement?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I have an ICD R-time 8 cartridge that I've removed the original solder tab from. I have tested the cartridge works by temporarily connecting the Keystone 105 battery holder to it, now I would like to permanently install the battery.

I really have not done much soldering/desoldering, so my question is, do I just desolder the front and back + and - locations of this PCB, push in and solder the Keystone battery holder?

Thanks for taking a look.

Steve

Update: Worked better than I thought. The finished product with the battery holder soldered in is attached here.

OK thanks. I will give it a shot and see what happens. Strange they used the solder tab to begin with. I guess it's a cost-cutting measure.

I really meant south of the pass-thru connector above, but I think you've got it right anyway.....

When I had my R-Time 8, I followed their lead and soldered a new battery instead of replacing the tabs with a battery holder :) .

I suppose I could have went that route as well, another solder tab, it was just attached to the one side of the PCB obviously. But I think I've seen a photo where others have done this. I don't know. I don't want to mess it up. It's not like I really *need* an RTC or anything.

I think you are doing it the right way, I would have done the same if I wasn't lazy enough to get by backside up and get a battery holder, online ebay shopping didn't exist in those days ;)

Finally got around to the desoldering/soldering. I think it went well. It works, so that is main thing ;)

I've updated my original post with pictures of the final result in case someone else has one and wants to attempt this fix.
