Sticky locking pins in SF354 drives

Recommended Posts

I've got a few SF354 drives in which the disk locking pin repeatedly gets stuck. This is the pin that, once a disk is inserted, slides into the small hole in the bottom of the disk. The pin gets stuck in the locked position, preventing disk insertion. I can free it by exercising the eject mechanism a few times, but the problem recurs after just a few disk eject cycles. Any suggestions for a permanent fix?

Try spraying the switch with a bit of WD40 but be careful not to get it everywhere (on the heads or belt) in the drive. If that doesn't work you will likely need to remove the switch and replace it with something off another drive.

EDIT: Also, not sure if you can get that switch off and dissasemble it as a last resort, there might be a spring inside which has lost most of its tension - but this is just speculation.

Try rubbing alcohol and q tip first to work the button up and down.
