0078265317 #1 Posted March 18, 2013 Or maybe its my sears telegames 6 switch. I know it has compatibility issues. But its all messed up. Not sure if I got a bad cart or its my sears. I made a video to show what is going on.
+Omegamatrix #2 Posted March 18, 2013 Do you have a Harmony cart that you can also try River Raid II on? If you do, please try with the Harmony configured as a single image, and not a multi-cart. A single image will just load River Raid II on the cart just as if you stuck a regular River Raid II cart in there. So there will be won't be a menu screen loaded on the Harmony, and the RIOT ram won't be in a fixed state either.
0078265317 #3 Posted March 18, 2013 That is too expensive. I never bought one of those.
shadow460 #4 Posted March 19, 2013 Your cart and system are most likely OK. I have the same problem on any six switch console. If I do get it to load, the radar will flash like that. Usually I get an all black or all gray screen. As your collection builds, you will undoubtedly acquire a 7800 or a four switch console. I bet either will play your River Raid II just fine. Due to compatibility issues and the systems I own, I consider River Raid II to be a 7800 game in my home.
jdrose #5 Posted March 22, 2013 The author shows the problem with the cart starting at 1:40 into the video. Since Space Invaders works fine I would say that your console and TV are OK. Perhaps the exposed traces on the cartridge should be carefully and gently cleaned. However, looking at other messages in the forum, some River Raid II cartridges are known to have compatibility issues with sixers for some reason. Some blamed it on thin cartridge PCBs used by Activision. Others say it is a bank switch issue. When you get a chance try your cartridge on a non-6 switch console and see what happens. 0078265317 #6 Posted March 23, 2013 The problem is I don't have a 4 switch. Only the sears. And even ebay is out of control now. So no way for me to test. I can trade with somebody for something worth the 20 I paid and we can see if it makes any difference. But I have no 4 switch.
shadow460 #7 Posted March 23, 2013 For now, the best thing I can recommend is just to hold onto the River Raid II cart. If you want to play the game, Stella is a good choice for emulation. I used Stella with Fathom when my Fathom cart died right before we played it in a high score competition. Granted it's not real hardware, but it'll let you enjoy your game until you come across a newer console. On your six switch console, are the words "left controller" and "right controller" on a sticker or are they embossed into the plastic?
NIKON #9 Posted March 24, 2013 I would ask if you have any problems with other Activision carts???
0078265317 #10 Posted March 24, 2013 barnstorming work fine.
NIKON #11 Posted March 24, 2013 Then I would try two more thing before condemning the cart.... 1. Clean the cart with Q tips and alcohol 2. try the cart in another (meaning friends) 2600 console. If either does not produce the desired results..then the cart is defective

If either does not produce the desired results..then the cart is defective The cart is not defective at all. It's a compatibility issue between River Raid II and your average light sixer. I have already said it; I have almost the exact same problem with a known working River Raid II and several known working six switch consoles.
toymailman #13 Posted March 25, 2013 The cart is not defective at all. It's a compatibility issue between River Raid II and your average light sixer. I have already said it; I have almost the exact same problem with a known working River Raid II and several known working six switch consoles. I agree with this. I have found that 70-80% of all 6-switch (heavy or light) systems do not play River Raid II well or at all. All 4-switch systems have no issues. However, the 6-switchers can be fixed although I am not sure of the underlying issue. I sent my light sixer (from my childhood) to Lance at Video 61 many years ago thinking it was broke because it didn't play River Raid II. I remember I couldn't play it as a kid either though. Anyway, he did fix it so now it does play the game.
