xDragonWarrior #1 Posted March 24, 2013 I only like certain sports games.for instance Basketball games,I will play the newer ones but the only retro Basketball games i will play is NBA Jam/TE and Arch Rivals.i won't play any Baseball games except base wars.I will play the newer Football games but for retro it;s only Blitz the league,Blitz or Tecmo bowl/Super.I will only play Neo Turf Masters for golf.So do you play sports games at all?I only play the retro sports games because they don't feel like the regular NFL/NBA/PGA/MLB games and i like them because they feel like Arcade sports games. +atari2600land #2 Posted March 24, 2013 I think the modern ones are too complicated, beginning with the N64 and on up. The only basketball game I like is NBA Jam since it only has two basketball players per team and no stupid commentary on how I'm sucking by stupid commentators in the game. And I think someone should make Shuffleboarding. I got Curling DS, but I don't know how to play curling!

SoulBlazer #5 Posted March 24, 2013 (edited) I love all sports games, old and modern. My favs for each sport are Tecmo Bowl and Madden for football, NBA Blitz and NBA 200X for basketball, Blades of Steel and NHL 2000X for hockey, RBI Baseball 3 and MLB 2000X for baseball, Sensible World of Soccer and FIFA for soccer, Kings of the Beach and DOA Xtreme 2 for beach volleyball, RC Racing and NASCAR for car racing, and some other misc sports games like Super Dodge Ball. (Great game!) Edited March 24, 2013 by SoulBlazer
Reaperman #6 Posted March 24, 2013 (edited) I find that I like most sports games that don't have official licenses. No NFL, NHL, NCAA, PGA, nothing. Most games that lack a 'sports league license' don't feel constrained by 'being real' and have fun with the genre--which I'm all about. So many examples. Crushed Baseball, Mario Golf, Street Hoop, turf masters, punchout, baseball stars, anything involving dodgeball, and of course, the greatest sport of all, Ballblazer. I think that all sports games should feature robots with tank treads--and those few that choose not to should have rocket boots instead. Algus #8 Posted March 24, 2013 FIFA and Madden are both pretty great. I used to like NCAA Football quite a bit last gen. Don't have a fave for basketball. I've never gotten a feel for a baseball game. I did like Triple Play on the PS2 however. I love NES baseball games however. Especially the first RBI Baseball for its graphics and Base Wars for killer robots
karokoenig #9 Posted March 24, 2013 I clicked "none". Could have done "some", but the number is so low... Maybe Atari 2600 Golf, because it's godawful in an almost cute sort of way. I do play that one from time to time.
Taskmaster99 #10 Posted March 24, 2013 I like the Fight Night series all the way to the current gen. other than that....usually the older titles are what I play. Some NES Play Action Football, Tecmo Bowl.....etc....etc.
xDragonWarrior #11 Posted March 24, 2013 I also like the mario sports games.and i just can't get enough NBA Jam.What other sports games has a cool announcer with cool phrases like "BOOMSHAKALAKA!","Is it the shoes?!" and "he's heating up"?

NHL Open Ice. Its NBA Jam but hockey style. One of my faves. 2 skaters and 1 goalie per team. Over the top action, fire pucks, crazy codes such as big heads and all that. Think there was a version on PSX but I always played the arcade machine.
AtariLeaf #13 Posted March 24, 2013 (edited) I like a few: 2600: Ice Hockey, RS Volleyball, Pele's Soccer, and Video Olympics (don't mind basketball either) also does Miniature Golf count as a sport? 7800 & XL/XE: One on One Basketball Tandy Coco: Color Baseball, Skiing NES: Blades of Steel, Ice Hockey Genesis: NHL 94,95,96 and Hit the Ice (Also have and like the TG-16 and SNES versions of Hit the Ice) PC: NHL 2002, it was great that you could put your "face in the game" even though it never really worked right and made your face look like it had been through a playdoh fun factory. Christophero Sly #14 Posted March 25, 2013 The only sports games I like are on 16-bit consoles. The only modern sports games I can tolerate are select installments of the Tiger Woods series.
+HammR25 #15 Posted March 25, 2013 I prefer the arcade style ones the most. NBA Jam, 3 on 3 NHL Arcade and Tecmo Bowl are my three favorites. I don't really consider racing games as sports games since most of them aren't trying to replicate a racing league. I do however enjoy almost all racing games though. I just built a new computer simply to run rFactor 2.
jhd #16 Posted March 25, 2013 I like bowling games (the only sport that I ever played competitively IRL) and some golf games. I also have a few hockey games (PSX and PS 2), but I have not played them very much. Football and baseball do not interest me in any format.
+Gemintronic #17 Posted March 25, 2013 No, but in my fantasy world I do: * BaseballShock * Daytona May Cry * Call of Hockey * Golf of War * Capcom vs. Madden
BydoEmpire #18 Posted March 26, 2013 I generally prefer retro sports games. Not my favorite genre, but I do like them. The only modern sports game I play is Madden, because I like the NFL and pro football. Don't play it that much, but it's still fun.
Lord Helmet #19 Posted March 27, 2013 I always put the newest iterations in my GameFly queue. If they show up, I play through a season and then send them back. I'm currently playing FIFA 13, which is pretty great. I used to really look forward each year to the new versions, but now not so much. I only play them if GameFly sends them (they usually sit in my queue around #7 or so).
+Gemintronic #20 Posted March 27, 2013 The only sports games I ever enjoyed were Atari 2600 Football and Blades of Steel for the NES.
Vic George 2K3 #21 Posted March 27, 2013 I'm not a big fan of sports games, but if they are Mario or Sonic-related, I might be interested in it.
Chuck D. Head #22 Posted March 27, 2013 Most of my favorites have already been mentioned, but I will drop a few comments; NHL '94 for the Genesis is just fantastically balanced and fun I imagine Atarileaf's mention of Color Baseball for the coco might raise a few dubious eyebrows, but I would say it plays so well it is uncanny. Very well suited to the maligned Tandy joystick also. I agree in general about liscenced games not being as fun as non-liscenced. One exception I guess is the Backyard series, which while intended for kids is a lot of fun, expecially Backyard Football, which I believe is the first one that added in kid versions of NFL players with the other kids. I like most of the Mario sports games quite a bit, but for some reason N64 Mario Tennis kicks my ass. I dont think I ever won a match on it.
Ross PK #23 Posted April 20, 2013 I find most sports boring. But I do enjoy golf, rally, darts, fishing, and snooker video games.
Video #24 Posted April 21, 2013 I voted "some of them" What I like is games that don't try to be to serious. Old Baseball games with the super fireworks bs when you hit a ball hard, or football games where you could do stupid stuff like trip the cheerleeders, or the soccer game with the missile mode for the super kick and whatever. RBI baseball (nintendo) is probably as "realistic" as I will still be willing to play. Look at some of the "backyard sports" games curently, their cool, but mostly, you got to get your crazy fix on old retro games LOL.
