how to play Super Game Module Game without Super Game Module!

Recommended Posts

Some of you , ordered SGM Games but are not able to play them yet...

So this is a method to play them on a regular console ... of course the solution is not "perfect"... because the games plays without sound , and it requires you have some other hardwares.

But , if you have Expansion Module #2 (Atari 2600 module) and a Starpath supercharger cartridge.... it works.

The procress described here is at your own risk .

1- remove the cover of the expansion Module #2

2- plug it on the C.V

3- plug the supercharger cartridge in the expansion's module cartridge port. (now you can because you removed the cover, otherwise the starpath supercharger can not plug (except you have an cartridge extender))

4-insert your super game in the C.V

And enjoy! :)

(tested on a SECAM 60hz console with French expansion module and U.S.A supercharger version)

Also work here!!

Thanks!!! :D

That was good. It only took you 11 minutes to drag out the expansion module, take the cover off, find a supercharger, and try it out. ;)

¡¡¡April Fools!!!

:D :P :-o

Not at all!!

The supercharger cartridge has 6k of Ram built in. If you don't load supercharger game they are here

Now, normally, when you plug the expansion module #1 , the coleco starts on the module, and try to execute the game load in the super charger... but there is no..

So the coleco then try to boot on the cartridge inside the coleco (here the super game)... the super game detect if something is on the expension port (it is looking for the SGM)... and as the expansion module is here, it finds something and believe it is the sgm... and the game starts!.

Of course... if the SGM game uses more than 7k of Ram (1k coleco + 6k in the supercharger) , it won't work... but the 2 i tried worked. (of course i just played few minutes and did not complete them so may be later in the game it won't work)

:)

If you don't have a Starpath Supercharger. Does Burgertime Atari 2600 version have enough RAM to play a Super Game? :? I believe it had 2KB of RAM in it. I guess I'll electric tape the cartridge to prevent Burgertime ROM to be read, instead i'll just read the RAM. Maybe it'll at very least let me play 2 seconds of Super Zaxxon, hopefully. |:) Maybe I'll ducktape the Starpath Supercharger and 13 naked Burgertime PCB boards daisy chained together in order to have 32KB, plus 128 byte from the Atari 2600, every bit of memory counts. Maybe force the Atari2600 sound chip to work, I'm not letting it get away without doing any work. Hopefully my stubbornness and persistent will make it work  . I'm praying for it to work.

It won't work with BurgerTime, because the Module will find code on the cartridge and will start the 2600 game not the SGM one. But as you said if you prevent Burgertime ROM to be read, it could work. It worth to try.

the advantage of the burgertime solution would be that you won't have to remove the cover of the expansion module to plug the cart.

:)

Hmm... Wonders if I can plug in Burgertime into the Colecovision and somehow solder wires from Atari 2600 version of Burgertime cartridge to the expansion port to force it to connect. It'll unlock an easter egg and blow up my Colecovision. That'll be super awesome!!!

Joking aside. Classic Game Room review of Burgertime got me to get a Colecovision. I never got a chance to play it a lot when I was a kid, and I'm happy to get this Colecovision and a bunch of other awesome games. I signed up for the Opcode newsletter, so someday I'll have this in my hand and finally play Super Zaxxon the version I played when I was a kid.

It about time and with the way people are dumping their Wii-U systems, it looks like console gaming on a Nintendo system is in danger as well. At least Nintendo still has the 3DS.

No phone at all? That unpossible!

A home phone, sure , but nothing other than that... .. And I highly doubt I could play anything with that phone..... Other than trying to play some music notes out of the dials :P

At first I thought you were joking, but I can't argue with photographic evidence.

The Wii U will sell, once Nintendo put their s*** together and start releasing games. Just don't expect Wii sales level. It will be more like GC sales level.

In fact I believe it is about time Nintendo stop making consoles and portables that depend exclusively on control gimmicks to sell. That is just the most risky strategy possible. They force consumers to choose between innovative controls and current gen tech, not a smart thing to do. When the new controls resonate with consumers like DS's touch screen or Wii's motion control, they make a fortune. When they don't resonate, like 3D and tablet controller, they get in deep trouble like they are right now. Why don't they just offer damn current tech? There isn't a company more innovative and more stubborn than Nintendo.

Now the true 1 million dollar question for me is what is going to happen once PS4 and XBOX720 or whatever get released. Will they sell like hot cakes, or will both fail just like the Wii U? Truth is, I am more inclined to believe the latter, for reasons I posted in some other thread. They may even sell better than the Wii U, but I am pretty sure it is going to be far from current gen numbers... And there are other factors, like Sony is currently going under as a company, could well close doors or go the Panasonic route and get mostly out of consumer electronics in the near future.

I still call April Fools.

My Exp module was modded in the 80s to fit with my Supercharger, but i do not have any Super Games.

The Supercharger has boot code: Rewind Tape Press Play so how will it know to use the Coleco Cart?
