Atari Master #1 Posted February 17, 2003 Anyone here anything? I here the PS3 has a few years to go. I also here that Nintendo is working on something.
joeybastard #2 Posted February 17, 2003 According to an email I got from Nintendo when I emailed some suggestions for the next gen console(jeez I'm a geek ), they said the new one is well into development and they couldn't change the features now. They didn't say if it already had any of things I suggested, or when it was coming out.

Foxy Cleopatra #5 Posted February 18, 2003 Here's a little on xbox 2.http://www.gamerfeed.com/index.php?story=1491 I dunno that's cool I guess, but I have a computer (obviously ) I don't need one in my XBox, although chances are it will be better than the compooper I have now! Atari Master #7 Posted February 18, 2003 Bah, another X-Box... Anyway, I hope Sony and Nintendo get rid of X-Box. Or at least MS goes down in the stock and they loose money...

Atariman #9 Posted February 18, 2003 Gees. The X-Box Next idea is giving me a strange sense of Deja Vu... (Why do I hear little voices screaming "CD-I!!!" and "Atari XEGS!!!" in the back of my mind?) I'm kinda skeptical about how that will work out simply because it seems like there have been similar ideas in the past, most if not all of which had minimal success... Starscream #10 Posted February 18, 2003 Agreed. Sony has stated that the next PS will have all kinds of non gaming features too. I just wanna play games like everyone else - don't they get that?
Ze_ro #11 Posted February 18, 2003 Christ people... enjoy the current generation, it's pretty damn good as it is. It's getting to the point where leaps in technology have turned into small steps. I can hardly even tell the difference between Dreamcast graphics and PS2 graphics. We don't need new systems yet... at least, not unless they come out with something revolutionary, like VR or holodecks or something. --Zero
Punisher5.0 #12 Posted February 18, 2003 Agreed. Sony has stated that the next PS will have all kinds of non gaming features too. I just wanna play games like everyone else - don't they get that? Nintendo does. I'm sure the next system from Microsoft is going to be really cool. I just hope they don't stick with that name.
Atariman #13 Posted February 18, 2003 maybe like a cheap subwoofer that you strap to your chest and simulates real punches and kicks in your favorite game? lol. Now where have I heard that one before.... oh that's right. The Interactor I bought for 10 bucks about 5 years ago boasted about this. (but seriously, I'd like to see some VR development or something soon, too)
Starscream #14 Posted February 18, 2003 Agreed. Sony has stated that the next PS will have all kinds of non gaming features too. I just wanna play games like everyone else - don't they get that? Nintendo does. I'm sure the next system from Microsoft is going to be really cool. I just hope they don't stick with that name. I'm sure the next XB will kick ass and yes Nintendo will have a game only system. And I don't really care about names of systems - pretty much all have been pretty stupid thus far
Happy_Dude #15 Posted February 18, 2003 There really isn't much info at all at this point. Just a bunch of brand name loyalty Dreamcast is the most recent system I own, so I don't really care about PS/33&1/3, Xsucks, or Nintendo Game Oblong. when everyone is debating the latest and greatest systems in 3 years time I'll be buying todays systems for penuts

Pie #18 Posted February 18, 2003 Gees. Yeah, I mean its not like anyone appreciates the DVD player in the Xbox or PS2, and no one uses the various homebrew utilities in the Dreamcast. Surely these we should welcome these advances? Digital cameras for example are becoming increasingly popular, but you need a pc to use them. The various technologies are becoming less and less divided, what with consoles having hard drives and connecting to the internet, and interactive TV. Anyway, I think its safe to say that most of the other multimedia type projects in the past have failed due to a lack of good games.
joeybastard #19 Posted February 18, 2003 ...I can hardly even tell the difference between Dreamcast graphics and PS2 graphics...--Zero That's because the DC is just as good or better then the PS2 Am I wrong in considering the DC part of this generation's (in fact the first in this generation) consoles? It may have come out a year earlier but it's way advanced over the PS1 or N64 which are last generation.
Vic George 2K3 #20 Posted February 18, 2003 I'm not holding my breath waiting for the next "new generation" of game systems when I haven't yet seen what's currently out there use up its potential through the software output. My brother just bought an X-Box and from what I've seen so far, I think it's a pretty good game system. Probably impresses me even more that it has a built-in hard drive. But I'm not going to give up my Playstation 2 since there's still original Playstation games that I haven't yet played that would interest me in addition to Playstation 2 games. (Right now, I'm trying to plough my way through the original Tomb Raider, and sometimes it feels like Lara moves like a stick!) The Gamecube with its upcoming Gameboy Advance adapter might become a desirable secondary game system for me, but for now I'll settle for what I already have. Invader_dag #21 Posted February 18, 2003 But Playstation 2 is probably cool and creative huh? Or maybe even N64 or Gamecube......... I agree that PS2 is not creative at all. And now that the official name for the new PS is the PS3, AND sony probably won`t change the controller, it really bugs me that sony is so uncreative. But i think GameCube and X-Box are pretty creative. I think it should be something other than BOX though, cause it makes it sound kind of junky. And i sure as heck hope the next X-Box is not indeed called that. let's hope the change the black and white, and start and back buttons on the controller S for it. Then it will fix the problems the first had with a sucky controller on launch. Anyways, i`m not really that concerned about the next gen consoles. I`m content with what we have here, although it would be awesome to have ONE more contender out there... Darn you Sega why did you have to lose money!!!!! Interesting note: NEC has reentered the gaming market, as a software developer. So far, the are starting all their games as exclusives to GC, then porting them after awhile from what i have read. Anyone else hoping that there is a Turbo-Grafx 128/256??? I sure am.
jjessop #22 Posted February 18, 2003 I agree that PS2 is not creative at all. And now that the official name for the new PS is the PS3, AND sony probably won`t change the controller, it really bugs me that sony is so uncreative. But i think GameCube and X-Box are pretty creative. First off, no PS3 name has been announced at all. Now you call hacking a low end PC (with a Gforce MX) into a box "creative"? I have some respect for Gamecube as they at least have some innovative hardware and industrial design. They took some real risks.....and failed I'm sorry to report. I like the console but sales are dismal and most 3rd parties are abandoning it in droves. As for the PS2 and it's controller, do you have a significantly better one or idea for one? History is a great teacher and changing something that works well, for the sake of change is usually a bad idea. Atari had a "good" controller and then went on the rampage of poor controller designs and destroyed all gameplay. Keeping the same controller industrial design also allowed for easy play of the backwards compatible game library, a nice feature. While the PS2 controller looks the same, it has pressure sensitive analog buttons unlike the original DualShock. If that was not so "innovative" then why did Xbox COPY the idea. Clearly Microsoft in everything Xbox related is copying PS2 right down to the packaging.........innovative??? Jerry I may need to stay out of this forum
Starscream #23 Posted February 18, 2003 @ Invader Dag - Interesting note: NEC has reentered the gaming market, as a software developer. So far, the are starting all their games as exclusives to GC, then porting them after awhile from what i have read. Anyone else hoping that there is a Turbo-Grafx 128/256??? I sure am. Hell yea I'm happy! Actually, just the 1st game they are making is going to the Cube. All of the others so far are going to be on all 3. This is much better news than Sammy buying Sega............And as much as I would love to see another Turbo system of some sort, it just wouldn't be the same as back in the day @jjessop Yea I can think of a better design for the PS2 controller. It's too small, too cheap feeling and they have crammed way too many buttons on there. And trigger buttons would be nice instead of the shoulder buttons. And maybe some precision for a change........ And I see no possible way how you feel MS copied the PS2. While the Dualshock idea may have been copied, that's about the end of all simularities. If anything, the controller was blatently copied from the Sega DC design - which is good being the DC controller is one of the best ever IMHO. Now for the GC failing - I wouldn't count out Nintendo just yet. Yea the 3rd party developers may be canceling some stuff for now, but Nintendo never fails no matter what. They always have a way to stay strong. Back on topic - The current 3 have so much more life in them that to speculate or even give a rats ass about the next gen ones is jumping the gun. Way things seem to be going, I wouldn't be suprised to see another crash
Vic George 2K3 #24 Posted February 18, 2003 I agree that PS2 is not creative at all. And now that the official name for the new PS is the PS3, AND sony probably won`t change the controller, it really bugs me that sony is so uncreative. Is it really "uncreative" when a company decides to stick with a basic controller design that works best? How many more buttons and stuff do we really need on a basic controller, anyway? I think here the motto, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", would best apply to controllers, and it sure would help people who don't like throwing away their best controllers for a previous system because they won't work or are not compatible with the latest system. Invader_dag #25 Posted February 18, 2003 Sony has called the new system the PS3 in press confreneces before. and what the heck do you think they are gonna call it anyways?? GAME STATION!!!! And i like the PSX/2 controller just fine, but there are some things Sony needs to change. There is not enough analog sensitivity on any of the buttons for one. it is almost digital feeling to me. And MS in way copied the PS2, the only similarites are the color of the console, and it uses a cd tray instead of toploading. And i never said that MS was creative of making a PC in a Box, i was stating the NAME was somewhat creative. And don`t count Nintendo out just yet. The can survive on their GBA sales alone, not to mention somewhat good GC sales. Besides, it's nintendo, they have out lived atari, sega(hardware wise that is) and all the other competitors. Do you really think two second place generations are gonna do them in?? Back on topic - The current 3 have so much more life in them that to speculate or even give a rats ass about the next gen ones is jumping the gun. Way things seem to be going, I wouldn't be suprised to see another crash I`m starting to hope for another crash. Maybe that will get rid of the crap these 3rd parties are putting out. It has gotten away from gameplay sooooo much. That's why i like the GBA, it takes me back to the good old days of the SNES.
