Next gen consoles?

Recommended Posts

I told nintendo they needed to have backward compatability to the N64... IE N64 through the New Nintendo system.

Then they should provide an adaptor for $20-30 (Nintendo Brand adaptor) to be able to play SNES & NES games on it.

I figured if they could do 5 consoles in 1... that would be awesome.... then you could have your Gameboy player on it and play GBA, GBC , and original Gameboy games on it too.

Tell me that would be sweet.

Sony has called the new system the PS3 in press confreneces before. and what the heck do you think they are gonna call it anyways?? GAME STATION!!!!

And i like the PSX/2 controller just fine, but there are some things Sony needs to change. There is not enough analog sensitivity on any of the buttons for one. it is almost digital feeling to me.

Your wrong about any console being refered to as PS3 in any "official" press release or press conference. You are probably mistaking some reporter making reference to a Next Gen console by calling it PS3. I will be the first to apologise if you can find me an official press release, but I doubt you can.

No way was PS2 the done deal name for that console BTW:

As for your analog dual shock button sensitivity problems, they must be configured in software as such and usually are not. You can have 255 levels of sensitivity with 4 adjustable pressure ranges. I can assure you the hardware is very sensitive but most software does not take advantage of it.

I can vouch for that because I played (with code) with those analog buttons as soon as I could get my hands on them. Hell, we even hooked up a DMM to the buttons before the library was even available. :D

That's exactly what I emailed them about. I also suggested a built in memory for game saves and that they try to get it out in 2004. :D

Now you call hacking a low end PC (with a Gforce MX) into a box "creative"? I have some respect for Gamecube as they at least have some innovative hardware and industrial design. They took some real risks.....and failed I'm sorry to report. I like the console but sales are dismal and most 3rd parties are abandoning it in droves.

Ohh great another PS2 fanboy .

When the XBOX was released it wasn't a hacked up lower end PC. It was a hacked up high end PC. And it doesn't have a "Gforce MX" graphics chipset. It has a modified GeForce 3 graphics chipset that hauls ass. At that time that was the most powerful GPU you could buy. It's core logic chipset is extremely advanced and still offers more CPU to GPU bandwidth than today’s best PC chipsets.

Please, if your going to start an argument at least know what you are talking about.

A PC with a 733 MHz Celeron, 64 MB of RAM, and 8 GB hard drive was considered "high end" in late 2001? Really?

OK, that part I'll agree with. But Microsoft clearly skimped on certain other aspects of the system's design, and it's perfectly understandable why they did this. They wanted to sell the system under $300, and couldn't possibly shoehorn everything from a "high-end PC" in there.

With regard to earlier comments about the Dual Shock 2 controllers for the PlayStation 2 being not much different than the Dual Shock controllers for the original PlayStation, it's evident that Sony decided to stick to a design that works. It strikes an excellent balance of comfort and functionality. I feel that the Dual Shock 2 is the best pack-in controller of the current generation of systems, and possibly even the best of all time. Apparently the vast majority of the video game world agrees with that sentiment, as the PSX/PS2 controller designs are frequently mimicked in the PC world, and there are several third-party companies scrambling to make adapters to use the PSX/PS2 controllers on GameCube, X-Box, and Dreamcast.

PS2 Fanboy......hardly....but you sure sound like an Xbox one.

I was not trying to start an argument (read the thread) as my general comments were in respect to "lack of innovation" on PS2 vs Xbox allegation by another. I just don't see any innovation in Xbox vs PS2 and Gamecube.

The GPU may be a derivitive of the Gforce 3 core but it's not a 3, nor technically an G4 MX either, big deal. You seem to forget that despite all this alledged video bandwidth the Xbox video must share the slow main memory, no VRAM at all. But I could care less as that's not what the original discussion was about. And as for the Gforce stuff, that's the best part of Xbox and I'm a big fan of Nvidia's.

my 2 cents...

It is pretty amazing how every thread about the current systems and now their evolutions can degenerate into a war over which one sucks the most. It's enthralling really..

You know what I am an XBox fangirl, and proud of it! drooling.gif

It's actually a Pentium III proc. but it's true that it wasn't nearly as fast as other PC processors at the time. But then again, the XBOX supposedly doesn't have an OS, it doesn't have to multi task, and it has a very powerful GPU so it really didn't need that fast of a processor.

The 64MB of RAM is unified so it doesn't have anything to do with a PC.

The HDD is very small compared to PC's HDD's but it gets the job done with plenty of room to spare

I can see why you would think I was a XBOX fanboy. But the truth is that I'm not, in fact I sold the one I had. I actually prefer GC over XBOX and PS2. It's just that you have all the signs of a PS2 fanboy like defending the system for everything. If someone mentions one bad thing about PS2 they will be there defending it. Like the name PS3 or the same controllers. Both are hardly innovative. And don't kid yourself the next PlayStation in going to be called PS3.

The XBOX doesn't have slow RAM at all. At 200mhz. it's pretty quick.

I guess i was wrong for saying that the PS2 controller was not creative.

And if sony names the next playstation something other than PS3, than i am truly a moron, and will admit to it openly. I`m just not banking on them being overly creative with the name.

And how the heck did this get turned into PS2 vs. X-Box vs. GCN?? we wer'e just stating that no one seems to be that creative on the NEXT gen systems, not THIS generation.

And i the Dualshock 2 is far from the BEST controller out there, it is excellent. But so is the GCN's controller, and the Controller S(except for those stupid white and black buttons!!! and the two menu buttons for that matter). No controller can be the ABSOLUTE best, there always going to be faults. The DualShock 2 has the bad analog placement, the GC controller has the bad d-pad, the Controller S has bad b&w and menu button placement. and keep in mind, those are my opinions, so don`t start another argument about why i'm wrong for disliking this or that about the controller.

Just something else that is interesting: have you noticed the similarities between the current consoles controllers?? all have shoulder buttons, 4 face buttons(atleast) two analog sticks and a d-pad?? Remember when the NES, TG-16, SMS and 7800 were around?? all of them had almost identical pads, only one not having the same was the 7800, but the european controller had a very similar look. Just thought that was interesting... don`t know why really...

maybe like a cheap subwoofer that you strap to your chest and simulates real punches and kicks in your favorite game?

No, no, no... I'd rather they make some sort of device that lies as a ring on the floor, and you stand inside it. Through an advanced process of motion detection, it can detect when your fist or foot is extended. This will actually let you fight in fighting games! Imagine playing Mortal Kombat, and actually punching the other guy instead of just pressing a button! It'll revolutionize the gaming industry!

.... or maybe not ;)

As for controllers, I personally think that most of the controllers on the market today are shite. But, this is coming from someone who thinks that the N64 and Jaguar had excellent controllers, so feel free to ignore my opinion that the PS2 had awful controllers...

lol. I have one of those, too. Got it at Goodwill for $4.00 and I haven't even bothered to hook it up and try it out.
