Colecovision CIB games surprise pickup today (pics)

Recommended Posts

I went browsing on a whim today and found more great stuff than I expected to. I would appreciate any thoughts, opinions, or value estimates anyone would care to share. My cib CV collection is getting stronger by leaps and bounds!

All the links are dead......

Same here, but someone 'liked' the initial post, so apparently some people can access them. :?

I've had trouble viewing my gallery before, but right now, it's working fine. I don't know why the links aren't working for some people. Here is a pic.

The links provided worked for me but the follow-up pic makes things a lot easier. That's another great pick-up that you made there, but this time around you have acquired a bunch of the more common and therefore easier games to be had in CIB form. From what I can tell of the condition of each box (they look very good) and assuming they include the overlays where appropriate, manuals and a decent condition cart and label, I would estimate the retail value of this lot at $280-$300.

Now aren't you glad you didn't flip all those other ColecoVision CIBs! :D I probably should have tried to talk you into selling them so that I could have had a chance to acquire the handful that I need, but I don't roll that way.

Thanks for the info yet again! I always appreciate your CV insights and information. I am extremely happy I stuck with my original plans of keeping everything. Getting these great items today helped me realize I wouldn't mind going for a complete set. It is my most complete collection out of all the consoles I have (and the most quickly acquired in only about seven months). I am getting hooked on CV quickly- it's the only system I have bought homebrews for, but I think I need to take a break from purchasing those for now. What are the hardest to find cv games?

I wouldn't mind going for a complete set.

Then you may want to pick up a second job or have your credit card company raise your limit! icon_smile.gif

You should refer to NIAD's rarity list for the most "difficult" titles to obtain, but the quick run down for Original US releases (not including homebrew) is:

Aquattack (Currently available at Atari2600.Com for 279.95)

Motocross Racer (XONOX version)

Sammy Lightfoot

Sector Alpha

Slurpy

Super Sketch - Sketch Master

Tomarc the Barbarian

Tournament Tennis (Imagic)

Wizmath, The Wizard of Id's

Word Feud

Those 10 titles alone would cost you roughly $3500. That's assuming they are all CIB and in good shape.

NIAD Disclaimer:

Estimate is from my observations only.....actual costs may run you higher or lower depending on condition and demand for any particular title at the time of purchase. Game rarity was listed in alphabetical order and does not imply that Aquattack is more difficult to obtain than Word Feud (even tho Word Feud is more difficult to obtain icon_biggrin.gif). These are simply your top 10.

I have those games cib and near mint minus Aquattack, Super Sketch, Sammy Lightfoot, and Tennis.

It's about time that you show me some respect!!! :D

Pretty spot on with the list of 10 rarities. Now I know how Mickey felt after training Rocky or even better, how Yoda must have felt after training Luke Skywalker. My job is complete, I can rest now!

Seriously, WizMath is really a pain in the a$$ to get

Donkey Kong box is also quite rare.... Don't see this one often actually

Unless the guy who bough all sealed cases that was sold by "I can't remember the name of the website" ..... Decide to finally sell them all

But in another hand, I don't think there were that many sealed cases of DK anyway.... So...

BTW: SOMEONE, PLEASE SELL ME A SEALED DONKEY KONG for CV!!!!

.... Would also trade for my soul

So, I have started testing some of these games. I have a couple questions. My Space Fury cart just makes a dissonant chord when I power on the cv. I'm going to try cleaning the contacts, but I was wondering if there are any other tricks to try or if this is a symptom of cart death. My next question- why have I never heard Subroc on the hardest setting is incredibly fun?!

Alcohol and cotton, rub gently over the cartridge PCB connector. If the cartridge still fails, you can open slightly and try to clean it inside, it worked for me with Pitfall II.

But unfortunately sometimes the cartridges simply fail :(

I just tried cleaning it. There was hardly anything on the contacts to clean off. No resurrection yet, which is unfortunate. The cartridge is in excellent condition.

Try to open it slightly to clean the inside PCB.

I've sitting next to me two cartridges: Smurf's Paint and Play and a Facemaker, both in excellent state and them don't work :(. Them are well closed so I think the only way to open them would be breaking them... nah! already I've got replacements that work :)

Not sure what you mean by breaking them, You can hopefully loosen the glue on the sticker and lift it up to unscrew the cart and open it. Granted depending on your skill and patience you could end up ruining the label.

Unfortunately if it was pretty clean contacts then it could be a solder gone bad or the chip itself. If you are a solder master you could check it out and try to fix it, if it is the chip you are screwed buy a new game.

By the way, I've tried the hair-dryer trick over a duplicate dirty Gorf cartridge and it works very well to remove the label, just do it slowly with equal force and it should be fine.

The Smurfs cartridge has two screws, while the Facemaker seems to be only glued (that is what I was saying about breaking it out, only by force)

Could be a cold solder joint or the Prom chip has been zapped, I would say the prom chip seeing that you described a buzzing sound coming from the TV audio output. If it is a cold solder joint, you could try reflowing it.

Thankfully this Space Panic cart can easily be had for about $1.50, so it won't break the bank to replace it. Save the non-working cart for some kind of special CV display/shrine or use it as a donor cart shell for something else.

Coleco cart shells use two screws to join the two halves of the shell together and worst of all, they are located under the label.

Do you have Colecovision Super Sketch for sale, and if so, how does it work, are all the parts there, and finally how much is this for sale?

Not sure where you are getting from this thread that super sketch is being sold. I doubt anyone that owns it is going to sell it. The last ebay price was 300 something but that was several years ago, I could see it going between 300 - 700

for CIB it could possibly sell for less if there is no box.

Super Sketch works by having a cart hooked up through a wire to a pad that you can sketch on with a pointed tool and it tracks your movements to show it on the screen. Also several preset things you can use to draw. Nothing saves when you are done though so you are basically just doing it for fun on the screen and then it is over. It is pretty good technology for the 80's but the fact that it doesn't save really makes it just a collector item or maybe some real young kids might think it is cool.

How did this thread turn in to a Super Sketch "for sale, please sell me one" discussion? Oh yeah, never mind!

Anyway, for those that missed it, a loose Super Sketch just sold on eBay last week for $345. The real surprising fact is that there were only six bidders on this item with one of them making those little "nibble" bids... which I hate. If you want something bad enough, just throw out your max bid and keep your fingers crossed that no one comes over the top of at the end. Anyway, I'm holding out for a boxed one.

Jim how much do you think a box one would go for? That was the first Super Sketch I have seen on ebay.
