Mirage #1 Posted April 5, 2013 (edited) FOUND, THANKS! Long story short, I'd like to find a nice TI-99/4a for a 13 year old (he's a member here actually) who really has a strong interest in having one. Would like it to be fully working, working keyboard, with power supply. Extras would be great too, but just the machine itself would work. I know these turn up frequently enough. Just trying to do something nice for a kid. Would be shipped straight to him, not to me, this isn't a scam just to get me a TI, I already have one Edited April 11, 2013 by Mirage

abraXXious #10 Posted April 10, 2013 I have a couple of Ti-99s (original silver), voice modulators etc all boxed. Bought them cheap a few years back, but to be honest Ive never really played around with them. I always considered them a poor "also ran". Truth be told, if I wasnt a mad computer collector (and the fact they were CHEAP) I would not have bothered buying them. ...my question is, what are the pros of the system, and Im not talking about the fact it was the first 16 bit cpu in a personal computer, I mean what software is available that makes them an attractive retro item? Mirage #11 Posted April 10, 2013 Why don't you post your questions in the TI forum where you'll get a response from those in the know? Can a moderator please close this thread?
abraXXious #12 Posted April 10, 2013 Lol, I was assuming YOU might be in the know - my mistake.
Mirage #13 Posted April 10, 2013 (edited) Lol, I was assuming YOU might be in the know - my mistake. It's not that I am or am not. I could answer, but I'm not going to do it here. I'm just saying, this was a wanted post in a wanted forum that is over and should be closed or now ignored. Post up your own topic in the appropriate forum and get a variety of answers and opinions from the many TI users here. abraXXious #14 Posted April 10, 2013 Ahhhh, okiez, but lets not stand on convention too much - he never stood on us.
Mirage #15 Posted April 10, 2013 Not convention, just common sense. Post a new thread in the appropriate forum. Not a big deal.
abraXXious #16 Posted April 11, 2013 My question was not intended to open a whole new thread, it was simply a question that could have been answered here, in far fewer words than we have already used in discussing whether it should have been answered here, or in a different thread. Mirage #17 Posted April 11, 2013 OMFG, Really? What do you not get here? Take it to an appropriate thread where you will get a lively discussion, I'm sure. You are absolutely dense, aren't you?
abraXXious #18 Posted April 11, 2013 Noperz, I am simply taking the piss out of someone with a terrible attitude who opened their mouth to simply bitch when any normal person would simply have answered the question and left being a malcontent smartarse to another more deserving occasion. Are YOU getting it yet?
Mirage #19 Posted April 11, 2013 (edited) Look. I am not a TI expert the way many in the TI forum are. I'd rather they answer your question in a place they will see it. That is the appropriate form, not to ask in a thread that should just simply die now, that has a title that is not necessarily going to attract them to it (mostly due to being in a forum they are unlikely to look in). I happen to know that many of the TI guys only view the TI forum, not other ones. I do not have a terrible attitude, I'm not simply bitching, and I am a normal person, and I'm not a malcontent smartarse. Now YOU are being abusive. Let the thread die. Go ask in the appropriate forum and you will get the good answer you're seeking. Please. Seriously. Edited April 11, 2013 by Mirage
abraXXious #20 Posted April 11, 2013 (edited) Why don't you post your questions in the TI forum where you'll get a response from those in the know? Can a moderator please close this thread? Well, look at the above and tell me if you think it MIGHT be construed as someone being a smartarse? Now, you contend you were not trying to be a smartarse so I can only assume I took the above comment the wrong way. In this event I apologise unreservedly for implying you were a smartarse. I was actually just interested in what made the Ti-99 attractive to the retro collector - I happened upon this thread whilst looking through the WANTED section to see if anyone had responded to my wanted thread. I saw people discussing the Ti-99, of which I own a couple, so I thought I might ask those in the know. I honestly did not mean to upset anyone and understand that such a question should normally be opened in the appropriate thread, but I was there, you were there, I thought you might be in the know and it seemed harmless enough. How about we just all get along? Edited April 11, 2013 by abraXXious
Mirage #21 Posted April 11, 2013 I made a suggestion ("why don't you post your questions in the TI forum") and gave a reason ("where you'll get a response from those in the know"). It was simple and to the point, that's all. I didn't feel the need to start a lifelong relationship over it, so didn't go into more detail. I thought I was being pretty clear. I'm sorry if you took it differently. I really don't see anything smartarse about it, just a simple and direct statement. I'm sorry that you somehow took it personally. It really could have ended right there though. I understand what you were interested in finding, and I was trying to direct you to the best way of finding out, that's all. It really was that simple. Now, can we please just let this thread die? I'll say it more nicely and thoroughly if it's more to your liking: if you ask a question in the appropriate forum where the appropriate people are going to see it, you're going to get some GREAT answers that will be very lively and that you will like a lot. The TI guys (girls too?) are a passionate bunch, and they will certainly provide you with as much detail and/or as many examples as you'd like! It's the best way to go about this. I've been here awhile (actually way longer than my user account would suggest), so I know where you're going to get the best responses/interest to your question. I honestly have your best interests at heart here.
abraXXious #22 Posted April 11, 2013 (edited) Hey, I just explained myself - your comment came across as pointed and rude to me, so you got the same back. Now you say it was never intended that way and I accept that, hence the apology, but you might want to try wording things a little "nicer" in the future so these misunderstandings don't happen. There is enough uncertainty in the universe without adding anymore.... didn't Tom Baker say that? Anywho, sorry about the misunderstanding and thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
