Are there any compelling advantages to the SIC?

Recommended Posts

Now that folks have had these for some time...

This is a question mainly for those of you who own ---> both <--- AtariMax and SIC carts.

For you English speaking folks, how are the docs for SIC? Is there enough info for the typical user to make their own images? Are they even still for sale? (I noticed that the web page for the Docs seems to be gone.)

DOCS I personally have not done a lot with programing the SIC cartridge, but AtariGeezer has built in a Rom builder for files into the RomGenerator. And the original distributed Sic gen program by the developer is okay for programing the cartridge also..

I prefer the AtariMax Cartridge only because the cart casing is better sized and seems to be more durable, but I have the Sic cart in my 800xl as often as the AtariMax cart..

Just a quick reply with my thoughts:

What I like best from AtariMax flash cards:

Fabulous cart case

Does also fit right in 400/800/1200xl

Gold plated contacts

At this moment a lot of game conversions and tools available

Nice AtariMax Studio software with a lot of features/options

Support from Steven Tucker is good.

What I like best from Sic cards:

Indeed not expensive (hence the name Super Inexpensive Cart)

No protected GAL firmware, so I can repair them myself 'forever'

Reset button

Technical documentation is available

I think it is a pity that the SIC does lack the goldplated contacts.

I think it is a pitty that the AtariMax carts do lack the reset button and a good documentation, and I dislike the fact that I do not have jedec/firmware files. I would like to have the option to repair them myself, once that might be needed. (On the other side: Tucker offers a lifetime warranty, so it is not really a big deal)
