ApolloBoy #1 Posted April 9, 2013 (edited) I noticed this recently and couldn't help but notice that it looks a lot like puppetmark's 7800 composite mod: http://tinyurl.com/c8dqcb5 Has anyone tried this mod or something similar? I'm thinking of doing this on a Jr and Vader but I really don't know if it's any good or not. I already know about the Batari mod (have it installed in my Heavy Sixer) but I don't feel like spending over $60 on two Batari boards when I can just spend a few cents in parts building puppetmark's mod. shadow460 #2 Posted April 9, 2013 I had a 2600A come through here with a similar mod. They used pots instead of resistors, so one could set the values. It would not produce a usable RF signal, but the composite output was good. I sold the system while back.

ApolloBoy #4 Posted April 16, 2013 (edited) OK, I got in both a Vader and Jr. and I decided to try this mod on both to see how it went. It looks OK on the Vader, but it's fairly dark and I get some weird interference patterns if I turn the sharpness on my PVM up. It went even better on the Jr. though, I got a nice bright picture with good colors and no interference whatsoever. Now, I'm thinking this might have to do with how I did the mod on the Jr, as I removed the RF jack and put a 9-pin mini-DIN jack in its place (the same used in the Genesis 2/3). In turn I'm using my Genesis 2's RGB SCART cable on it, which uses composite video as the sync signal and also has a 75 ohm resistor on the sync output. I'm wondering if the 75 ohm resistor helped that in any way, and if so I might try it on the Vader (which I modded with RCA jacks). Thoughts? EDIT: Just tried a normal Genesis 2/3 AV cable on the Jr. and still got a great picture. Hm... Edited April 16, 2013 by ApolloBoy
Rex Dart #5 Posted April 16, 2013 Anyone else wanna chime in on this? Looks like $20 upcharge on top of $3 of parts to me.
ApolloBoy #6 Posted April 16, 2013 Looks like $20 upcharge on top of $3 of parts to me. Which is why I built it out of parts I had instead of buying the board I linked to.
ApolloBoy #7 Posted May 9, 2013 So any ideas as to why the same mod turned out fine on the Jr. but not on the Vader?
