Kyle22
Is there a player for Incognito?
phaeron
Not specifically, but try the regular SIDE2 player -- I forget whether Incognito is SIDE2 compatible or not.
Kyle22
I thought it was compatible, but all I get is error D5D5 and more D5's. Maybe the base IDE register is wrong?
flashjazzcat
IDE registers are not in the same place, so not compatible at that level.
flashjazzcat
Change IDE_BASE to $D1E0 and it should work with Incognito.
Kyle22
Thanks for the info, but I can't get it working yet. I replaced all instances of F0 D5 with E0 D1, and I still get the Read error D5D5 D5D5D5D5 message.
flashjazzcat
You'd be better off downloading the source a couple of pages back and simply changing one equate and then recompiling. You may have replaced all instances of the data register, but there are a further seven IDE registers at consecutive locations. Kyle22
Do I also need to change these? side_sdx_control equ $d5e0side_cart_control equ $d5e4 I wish I could find a comprehensive memory map of all the different devices (SIDE, SIDE2, Incog, U1M). flashjazzcat
The Ultimate map is described here: http://spiflash.org/block/20.html SIDE is here: http://spiflash.org/block/17.html Note self-explanatory URLs [irony]. Both Ultimate and Incognito use the same SDX build, so there should be enough information there. Kyle22
Thanks again for the info. It attempts to play, but I get only flashing, tearing video and an obnoxious high pitched beep. It may be my VERY old CF card. I'll get a new card and try again.

bugbiter
My god, I just discovered this thread and I absolutely LOVE it! I'm actually going to get me an SIDE cartridge now just to be able to play those videos! As far as I've seen the mode for playback is a static APAC. I would really love to see a video in a line-interlaced APAC mode, like I did in my clash of lightsabers demo. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/231575-clash-of-the-lightsabers-a-little-apac-animation/ Phaeron already commented about using that mode, said it was impossible because there are not enough cycles left in hblank. But I don't understand, why would you need extra cycles in hblank for swapping frame A/B kernels? That would be done in Vblank. Frame A with luma on even and chroma on odd lines is one kernel routine on its own, Frame B with chroma on even lines and luma on odd lines would be another. Of course I have no clue how the video data is arranged - is it a char mode Display List or Gr.15 lines? But I'd like to see it pulled off! The line flicker is not everyone's taste but it kinda doubles the vertical resolution which in my opinion really boosts the look and I like it better than the horizontal pinstripes. P.S. Huge thanks Phaeron, for giving us Altirra!
phaeron
I think there's been a misunderstanding. Swapping the polarity of the lines each frame is possible, and actually it only requires switching two register values with the same kernel. The reason I didn't do it is that when I tried, my TV wigged out -- the dynamic picture enhancement chip really didn't like it.
bugbiter
cool! In these cases only an old scool CRT will pay off..
_The Doctor__
How hard would it be for someone to cobble together a program to select the address configs from a menu, just choose the device and it changes the code in the player so on can simply select it and go? Edited June 6, 2015 by _The Doctor__
flashjazzcat
It should be relatively easy to make the player auto-detect the host device, for that matter.
a8isa1
I thought the same player compiled for MyIDE + flashcart would work with MyIDE II but I get "read error ffff ffffffff". I'm pretty sure the IDE base addresses for MyIDE II are the same $D500-$D507. Is there something I need to do differently with MyIDE II?
phaeron
Haven't tried it with MyIDE-II, but I think the CompactFlash power has to be enabled via $D50E first.
a8isa1
Thanks, Phaeron. Seems to be working now with MyIDE II (at least it does in Altirra). I hope I didn't mangle anything in your player. -SteveS Edited August 16, 2015 by a8isa1
Beetle
I'd like to know what length the video can have. Is it restricted to a known size, or only by the size of the media?
phaeron
Size of media, unless you have a CF card bigger than 128GB. The player uses 28-bit LBA addressing.
Kyle22
I still can't get this to work on my Incognito. I have used a sector editor and set the IDE registers correctly (I think). Has anyone made a version of the player specifically for Incognito? Hopefully the player doesn't use illegals because I have an 816. I really want to see this work. phaeron
No illegals. It only abuses ANTIC, not the CPU.
