Udonge #1 Posted April 27, 2013 I was playing Asteroids on it today and suddenly when I power on the console, it remains with static. All connections are firm so I don't see the problem. Anyone have an idea of how to fix this?
Udonge #2 Posted April 27, 2013 And this just in - I dug out my trusty multimeter and confirmed the console still gets power, I tried turning the white thingy to no avail, the modulator doesn't look corroded to me. Any idea why a VCS would just up and fritz like that?
BSA Starfire #3 Posted April 27, 2013 What model 2600 is this, 6 switch, 4 switch, Jr? First thing as you have multimeter is check the power switch. Also check the TV hasn't lost it's tuning position. If your in UK that is usually on ch36. No idea what TV standard you use on the moon however! Udonge #4 Posted April 27, 2013 I'm just running an NTSC LCD on channel 3, mine's an old 6 switch from '77 and I only see the white pot from this guide. http://www.atariguide.com/help/care.htm I'll come up with a pic of the internals in a bit (stripped down to the chips). Udonge #5 Posted April 27, 2013 http://db.tt/b0Xtix3i I have the motherboard seperate from the switchboard for clarity purposes.
robertski #6 Posted April 27, 2013 Yep, it looks busted all-right.. There also two of your switches missing.
Wickeycolumbus #7 Posted April 27, 2013 Check to see if the voltage regulator is still supplying 5V. If you don't know where it is, it's on the left side underneath the switches. Measure the voltage between GND and OUT: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_seix_ku9EhI/TT2j182dSaI/AAAAAAAAAS4/58K4KxPY-ws/s1600/7805-pin-gnd-voltage-regulator-5volts-converter.jpg
Udonge #8 Posted April 27, 2013 I'll try the voltage regulator, but i'd like to know if something can be done with the RF box on the lower right since I can't seem to get it open.
Udonge #9 Posted April 27, 2013 (edited) I think it's the power adapter since it gives me no voltage. Neither on the cord itself or on the regulator. Edited April 27, 2013 by Udonge
AtariVCS101 #10 Posted April 28, 2013 If it's not working and you took it apart make sure the wires aren't loose or anything. I also reccomend replacing those 2 missing switches that are missing on the switch box.
robertski #11 Posted April 29, 2013 case solved.. just need a new adapter
Udonge #12 Posted May 7, 2013 case solved.. just need a new adapter Which was exactly the case. All of the wires were secure when I put it back together, even though I messed with the white pot a little Grand Prix shows up fine. When the power supply arrived I tested the multimeter on it for the hell of it then jacked the Atari in and powered on to make sure it works.
shadow460 #13 Posted May 7, 2013 FYI, the big white pot on the motherboard is the color adjustment pot. If the colors are off in some of your games now, you can re adjust it to correct the issue.
