Which upgrade chip are you talking about?

AFAIK, the 810 Happy Enhancement consists of a RAM expansion, a new ROM and logic circuit for address decoding.

I reworked a drive with this enhancement some ten years ago, analyzed the modification and dumped the EPROM.

After that, i modified the circuit for low parts count.

This is the result:

008

I did the same on the 810 Archiver Enhancement, which - in my opinion - is also a good choice for a classic 810 disk drive if you want to copy protected software.
Feel free to contact me if you need additional information or if you want me to modify you drive.

As I do have a Happy 1050 copy protection is less of an issue than speed/less wear. It's not that urgent and as I'm based in Austria, sending a unit for upgrading is probably not a viable option. Thanks for your advice!.

I'm living in the south of Germany (Bavaria), so sending (or even meeting each other) might not be an issue.

Anyway, i can provide more detailed information on the 810 Happy upgrade as well as the 810 Archiver upgrade including ROM dumps on request.

SLX, did you ever get a chance to build Horry's enhancement into your 810? If so, I'd be interested in more details, have a 810 here that I'd like to upgrade as well. No practical use really, only for the sake of just doing the hack.

Google only came up with a few blurry photo's of some additional wiring on the side board (most of them on AtariAge). More detailed info such as IC-nrs., schematic and eprom dump seem nowhere to be found.

Regards,
