notable musicians who use Atari computers

Recommended Posts

Probably the most prolific Atari user is Jean Michel Jarre... He would use banks of Atari Megas in concert through the 90's... I had the opportunity to watch in 1993 at Wembley Stadium, London and was able to glimpse about 6 or 7 machines in use.

Swedish band Adolphson & Falk used the Atari ST. On their album "Över tid och rum" from 1984 they even had a recording of an Atari 8-bit program as the last track. This wasn't specified on the album, but was discovered by someone who recognized the sound of a loading tape on the Atari 8-bit. It was their recording engineer, I think that was an Atari 8-bit fan at the time, who put the track in.

Fat Boy Slim.

I was just about to mention him - as an aside, had a great time at one of his Brighton beach parties, but I didn't get close enough to the DJ booth to see whether he'd brought his Atari along. White Town also used an ST on "Your Woman" (if anyone remembers that one...)

I really believe the Hotz translator is one of the most impressive music devices that utilized an Atari computer.

Jimmy Hotz with the Hotz Translator

I'm really surprised that a device like the Hotz Translator isn't being actively produced and used in this age of midi and VSTi software. I think it is one of those lost midi technologies.
