toptenmaterial
I'd like to compile a list of famous artists or bands who use Atari computers in their production, be it 8 or 16 bit. I'll start it off: Atari Teenage Riot

Synthpopalooza
Camouflage. Genesis. Myself. Also I think Tangerine Dream did at one point. (Atari ST's that is)
+orpheuswaking
Probably the most prolific Atari user is Jean Michel Jarre... He would use banks of Atari Megas in concert through the 90's... I had the opportunity to watch in 1993 at Wembley Stadium, London and was able to glimpse about 6 or 7 machines in use.

texacala
Kraftwerk used Atari STs in the 1980s and also used ST graphics for "The Mix" in 1997.
ilaskey
Sparks used to use STs too.
mimo
I believe someone bought an ST that was used by Mike Love of the beachboys last year. Dunno if he used it for music though

THOMASSU63
Swedish band Adolphson & Falk used the Atari ST. On their album "Över tid och rum" from 1984 they even had a recording of an Atari 8-bit program as the last track. This wasn't specified on the album, but was discovered by someone who recognized the sound of a loading tape on the Atari 8-bit. It was their recording engineer, I think that was an Atari 8-bit fan at the time, who put the track in.

Vaughan
Tangerine Dream definitely did use Atari ST's - this is confirmed in the liner notes for their album Optical Race.

Dr Do
Fat Boy Slim. I was just about to mention him - as an aside, had a great time at one of his Brighton beach parties, but I didn't get close enough to the DJ booth to see whether he'd brought his Atari along. White Town also used an ST on "Your Woman" (if anyone remembers that one...)

Jimmy Hotz with the Hotz Translator http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vahhes7h0ZA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xF7i3xJDx4 I'm really surprised that a device like the Hotz Translator isn't being actively produced and used in this age of midi and VSTi software. I think it is one of those lost midi technologies.
idavis
Mike Patton, right about 2:35 in the video is a 2600 with a Synthcart.
kogden
I know STacy laptops were used for MIDI tasks by Michael Jackson's band and INXS. My dad had a small company selling large NICAD battery packs, cases and chargers for STacy laptops. Both were customers.

kogden
Wasn't a decent ST pretty much *THE* standard MIDI rig in the mid-late 80's? Even Cubase got it's start on the ST I believe. Logic was originally an ST package as well I believe. We had an ST and a Casio CZ-101 we played around with Music Studio on.
ilaskey
True. Seems odd asking who used an ST. You'd be better off asking who didn't. I know one guy who used a MAC back then but everyone else was on Atari and either Pro 24 or Cubase.
