OUYA beaten by phones in benchmark tests

Recommended Posts

I'm not exactly sure why this is news. The Ouya has never promoted itself as being a high-end system running Android. The whole purpose of the device is to create an inexpensive gaming platform for the living room. I have no idea why anyone would expect it to compete directly with devices costing many times more.

Yep. I see a $100 console beating a lot of pricey devices. This benchmark seems like an endorsement to me.

Turns out that in benchmark tests, even last year's phones absolutely clean the Super Nintendo's clock. I'm going to go unplug my SNES right now and throw it the fuck out.

Good. That will increase the "Atari Ratio" in your household. :D

I'm willing to call 'good enough' on ouya's power. Tegra 3 is no slouch, and I'm wowed by a couple games that use maybe half of ouya's power (they also run on my $60 chinese tablet). I haven't seen ouya actually pushed to breaking by a big-budget game yet. I'd really like to.

Another thing to consider, many mobile devices have underclocked processors to prevent overheating and maximize battery life. Ouya has a freakking fan attached to it's heat sink. That fact alone allows a huge performance increase over passively cooled mobile processors in competing devices.

LOL! Ditto when it comes to RAM. My 8Gb AMD laptop only has 67,108,864 times as much memory as the VCS! According to wikipedia, only 30 million Atari VCS units were ever made, so even if you combined all the Ataris on Earth, they won't be good enough to match the performance of my laptop! :o

Seriously folks, anyone that concerned about performance benchmarks for their game consoles is in the wrong forum!

Thanks! I made a separate topic about this. It seems the PS4 and Xbox One will also have 8 gigs of RAM, so comparing the Atari VCS to the next gen consoles, Moore's Law has held up very well over the past 35 years...
