Hooking a Famicom to a 1702

Recommended Posts

So I'm looking into getting a Nintendo Famicom and wanted to see if it was possible to hook it up to my Commodore 1702 monitor. Of course the model Famicom I'm looking at is the original version with only RF output, so this makes it tad complex. What kind of demodulator do I need to hook it up through the monitor's RCA inputs, and will it have trouble with the Japanese RF signal?

I was just thinking about using an old cable/satellite box, they have built in demodulators and I think they can go up to channel 95/96 where the Famicom's signal goes out on.

A VCR should work as well.

yeah, either directly AV mod it (it's not difficult) or route the RF signal through a VCR and output it's video through composite to the front AV jacks. The 1702 delivers an authentic junky 80's experience, but you'll quickly find just about any other, larger tv will provide a much better experience.

The picture quality on the 1702 is very nice though, probably much better than most large CRTs that I've seen.

But it does have to go to channel 96 right? The only VCR I've got stops at channel 69.

Yes, that's correct.

Well I got a digital cable conversion box. It goes up to channel 125 and has a coax input and an av output. I tried it out and I got a picture, but incredibly quiet sound. Anyone have any experience with these things or any suggestions for it?
