Are any of these old games worth anything?

Recommended Posts

Checked out my local Cash Converters today, it's like a big pawn shop. I'm wondering if any of these are a good deal since I don't really know anything about these systems.

Most of the price stickers I can read seem high, but if there is a specific game you need for your collection, it might be worth it. Many of those games are not too hard to find. The Intellivision games can usually be found fairly low cost. The Turbografx games are more difficult to find, but those prices still seem too high. I'd suggest you go to a large game show or two to get a good idea of rarity and/or actual price levels.

If you don't know anything about those game systems, I'd wait until you find stuff at a price you "wouldn't blink an eye at" before buying (which is obviously different for each person).

Looks like they go to their source (ebay) for pricing, and that based on overpriced BIN auctions. Those TG-16 titles are priced far above current ebay prices. They need to get a clue.

If darius gaiden is $50, I don't even want to ask what they want for virtual on.

They'll likely only trade it for a unicorn.

Cash Converters is always ridiculously overpriced. You're not likely to find good game deals there.

It appears as if many of them are sealed. Not sure if factory sealed, the shrinkwrap seemed kind of sketchy on the CD-I games.

Cash converters usually is way too high on the sticker price, but if it sits long enough, usually they will wheel and deal with you.

Price on the CD-i games is way to high. Most can be found much cheaper. The only cd-i game that is harder to come by is Little Devil. But that even isn't very hard to come by.

*if* I didn't already have a copy, I'd *consider* that 3do starblade for that $20.

It's right there, so there's no waiting. It's a good game with a fair(ish) price.

A lot of stores think that if ebay charges it, they can too--and many even figure in a slight markup over that for the ease of not having to wait. However ebay reaches a much larger audience than a retail stores, so I disagree with that thinking. In my entire metro area there are maybe half a dozen retrogamers/collectors. Aside from that, there are people like myself who happen to not like retail stores all that much. I can shop on ebay from home and they ship it right to my door.

That's convenience I'll pay extra for. But luckily I usually don't have to pay extra, because retail stores are stuck in the trap mentioned above.

There's a seller on Ebay who's been selling bundles of sealed longbox 3DO games with StarBlade, Incredible Machine, Stellar 7, and a twin-seal of two NFR games (Twisted and Pebble Beach Golf). They've been going for cheap -- I got mine for under $17 shipped, and some other buyers apparently won identical bundles with bids in the $5-7 range.

BTW, the bilingual Intellivision Space Battle is worth the asking price of $5 if it's complete.

The stickers right on the boxes scare me senseless though. That's going to be like ripping a fishing hook across skin - painful for everyone and bound to cause lasting damage.

omg they seriously put those stickers on those intellivision boxes??? OUCHHHHHHHHH

it hurts to see that. omgggggg I hate people.

I get lucky with my local cash converters sometimes.

I recently got my 5200 there, great deal. and they've recently been selling all their games for $3 and I am LOVING it. but it's now a rare occasion to find anything there worth buying anymore.

I just have to be lucky that no one else got to it first.

The stickers aren't very sticky, they peel right off with no problems. Just need to be a little careful and I bet you'd be able to get every one of them off.

I don't even want to know what they're charging for that Coleco ADAM under the Intellivision games.

I didn't look at that but I saw on top of the games cabinet they have a 3 piece boxed Commodore 64 set for $350.

In the right hands (me), it's worth it's weight in gold... and the three ADAM components are a bit on the heavy side.

I think you guys are missing the obvious point here with these price stickers. Each game comes with a gold ring. It's probably in the jewel case.. or something.... right?

For $110, I hope that Intellivision is some sort of super secret model with an Intellivoice and flash cart built into it.

Ooh, nice Atari Lynx model 2. Wonder how many arms and legs they want for that? I always wanted one myself, even though it has a monstrous appetite for batteries.

Oh and if a store is charging $30 for Bonk's Adventure without even the case, that's your sign to leave the store.

$50 for a ps1? Better jump on that...

Jeez, I got one from freaking gamestop for $50 once...of course it came with the monitor too. I think the system's worth all of about $10 on its own. I guess the intellivision is worth about $20, so at least the prices scale right.

Went back to Cash Converters today, there's surprisingly a lot of turnover in vintage games there. And apparently that Intellivision sold, there's only 1 now. And they have the adapter module.
